July 7, 2021 ABC TO EXCLUSIVELY TELEVISE ESPN’S ‘SUNDAY NIGHT BASEBALL’ FOR FIRST TIME ON AUG. 8 Chicago Cubs Host First Place Chicago White Sox at Wrigley Field ESPN today announced that for the first time, “Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell” – the exclusive, national Major League Baseball game of the week – will air exclusively on ABC, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m. EDT. The marquee matchup will feature the Chicago Cubs and Kris Bryant hosting the first place Chicago White Sox and Tim Anderson. The game telecast will be available to stream on the ESPN App. “Sunday Night Baseball” is also available on ESPN Radio, ESPN Deportes. Matt Vasgersian will provide commentary for the game telecast with analyst and World Series Champion Alex Rodriguez and reporter Buster Olney. The trio will provide commentary from site. “Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown” will precede ”Sunday Night Baseball” at 6 p.m. on ESPN. Karl Ravech hosts “Baseball Tonight” alongside analysts Eduardo Perez and Tim Kurkjian, plus Senior MLB Insider Jeff Passan contributing news updates. In 2020, ABC aired its first MLB Postseason game in 25 years (since 1995) during the MLB Wild Card Series, produced by ESPN. A L U M N I N E W S L E T T E R VOLUME EIGHT “FROM OUR CAMPUS ON THE HILLSIDE..” WINTER 2007 MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Hello Fellow Alumni! The 2006 camping season was a great one! So many of the sights, sounds, and traditions remain, while at the same time our daily sched- ule and programs certainly characterize Jewish Camping in the 21st Century. Working with four generations of Bauercrest pride is an experi- ence any of us would cherish. The new programs and projects we implemented this past summer were very successful. The Project Adventure low ropes challenge course was well attended. Similarly, our new music room and model rocketry electives were big hits. Like a major league training field, you could see and hear the hitting workouts taking place in our new batting cages along the left field side of the A-diamond. Our summer Shlichim from Israel (now embarking on our 6th season) brought so much to the camp as key specialty leaders and educators in Jewish life, culture, and nationality. Learning of their home lives through great conflict in the northern part of the country made a huge impression on all of us. The 2006 Reunion was another hit. We had more than 150 total campers and staff in attendance at Temple Reyim in Newton. The setting was high-spirited and full of energy. Many saw our new banner stand displaying our colors, magnificent photos, and mission statement: To Build Self-Esteem and Jewish Identity through Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Achievement, and Responsibility.

The Boston Red Sox Monday, November 5, 2018 * The Boston Globe Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Ian Kinsler win Gold Glove awards Peter Abraham Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t need a Gold Glove to be recognized as one of the best center fielders in the major leagues. Red Sox fans have known that for several years. But Bradley certainly did deserve one and it finally came his away on Sunday night. Bradley, right fielder Mookie Betts, and second baseman Ian Kinsler were Gold Glove winners. The Red Sox and Atlanta Braves each had three. A finalist in 2014 and ’16, Bradley was selected ahead of Mike Trout (Angels) and Adam Engel (White Sox) in voting done by managers and coaches. Bradley was second among MLB center fielders with an 8.7 ultimate zone rating and tied for the American League lead with eight assists. There’s no statistic for improbable acrobatic catches but Bradley had a series of those. Betts won for the third consecutive year, the first Red Sox player to do that since Dwight Evans won five in a row from 1981-85. Betts is now one of seven Red Sox players to win three or more Gold Gloves. Betts led all right fielders with 20 defensive runs saved. He has 83 DRS the last three seasons. Kinsler, 36, is now a two-time winner. He also won with the Tigers in 2016. In 128 games for the Angels and Red Sox, Kinsler had 10 DRS, the most in the AL at second base. Andrew Benintendi (left field) and Mitch Moreland (first base) were finalists.

Buster Olney's top 10 teams: Are the Astros and Dodgers still baseball's best? Buster Olney Postseason performances have outsize value in Major League Baseball, and this is why David Freese shares emotional space with Bob Gibson in St. Louis, why several generations of New Englanders can deftly imitate Carlton Fisk’s frantic wave of a baseball, and why Kirk Gibson is better known for a fist pump than for his lifetime average. The executives who run front offices should divorce themselves from that romanticism of October and November results, and instead be wedded to the large sample size, before those nights when Brad Peacock and Charlie Morton were the best pitchers in baseball. And for the sake of ranking the best teams, we should probably do that too, giving greater weight to what was accomplished April through September. With that in mind, here are the top 10 teams, based on the input of evaluators, with help from ESPN researchers Mark Simon, Paul Hembekides and Sarah Langs. It’s subject to change before the start of spring training, of course, with so many veteran free agents still unsigned. 1. Cleveland Indians It’s important to remember a couple things about the Indians: (1) When the regular season ended, before anybody knew that Corey Kluber would pitch hurt against the Yankees, Cleveland was regarded as the favorite to roll through the postseason, after compiling a 22-game win streak that stretched over the better part of a month. (2) Among all contending teams, the Indians again appear to have the easiest road into the playoffs because most of their division is rebuilding -- the Tigers, the White Sox and the Royals.

OAKLAND, Calif. - The decisions are made for various reasons, whether it be recent play, complex data and statistical matrixes, or even an occasional old-fashioned hunch. Friday, manager Joe Maddon said he kept Willy Aybar in the lineup because he looked good the night before and he likes his swings against left-handed pitchers. And he put Sean Rodriguez in the lineup, ahead of Ben Zobrist, based on research of Rodriguez's success against Oakland starter Gio Gonzalez in the minor leagues (4-for-5). And as good as the Rays are going, it only figures both ended up delivering key hits in the 4-1 victory that improved their baseball-best record to 22-7. "Pretty nice,'' Maddon said. David Price had something to do with it, too, sputtering a bit early but going on to pitch into the eighth in dominating style, allowing only three hits, to improve to 4-1. And when he left, after a career-high 119 pitches, with the bases loaded and two outs, Randy Choate took it from there. "David's the story,'' Maddon said. "We get that kind of starting pitching once again.'' Choate did his job twice, actually, as Evan Longoria's throwing error on the first ground ball Choate got from Daric Barton allowed a run to score. But Choate came back and got another, getting Ryan Sweeney to bounce out to shortstop Jason Bartlett.
