In the spirit of past workshops, I will be conducting a photography workshop on Skye from May 26 – June 1, 2019 focusing solely on photographing the landscape. Photographers of all photographic skill level are welcome – no one has too little or too much experience to attend. I will provide photographic guidance during each outing, and evenings will be spent processing the day’s images using Adobe® Lightroom and reviewing your photographs. No worries about your Lightroom skill level either! Our “base of operations” will be the Hallaig Guest House, a modern bed and breakfast on northeastern Skye and owned by our good friends, Willy and Betty Campbell.

He has also led on developing the proposals that are set out in this document. Arvika Consult, consultant engineers led by Frank McCulloch have assisted with survey work and with engineering solutions and costing Work has been carried out February to May 2019 INTRODUCTION This report was commissioned by Edinbane Community Company (ECC) in January 2019. The report is set out in referenece to the Client Brief, it focuses on the Community Links routes that are imported for local people SKYE to link their communities to services, places of employment and to each other. SCOPE The survey looked at identifying potential cycling walking routes from north of Flashader through Edinbane and on to Greshornish and Dunvegan. This would open up a total of 27km of new path the majority of these routes closely follow the main road the A850. The routes are set out on the Wider Path Network Map. The focus of the detailed survey work has been the 0.5km missing link from Flashader to opposite the campsite at Borve. This section links with existing paths, that if joined, would provide a safe route between the neighbouring communities of Flashader, Kildonan and Fanks to the north and Borve and Edinbane to the south. The wider network representing approximately 23km of potential routes was inspected at representative and key locations such as at junctions and sites of potential obstacles.

Background & Context Situated is in the north-east of the Isle of Skye, in the Scottish Highlands, Staffin is renowned for its scenery and thousands of people from all over the world come to see its scenic landmarks which include the Quiraing, Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock. Known as Taobh Sear in Gaelic, Staffin has a resident population of more than 500 people, who live in 23 different crofting townships dotted around Staffin Bay and the Trotternish Ridge. They have the good fortune to live in an area which has a range of top-tier heritage and environmental designations, possessing an international reputation for geology, palaeontology and cultural heritage. It is the purpose of this project to bring all these aspects of this community to life through the stories and experiences of the people of Staffin. The Skye Ecomuseum, also known as ‘Ceumannan,’ is a museum without walls. All the exhibits are located in its environment and require a short walk to uncover their images and stories. It was established in 2008 by the Staffin Community Trust (SCT). The Skye Ecomuseum became the first in Scotland and the UK, with funding from a variety of European and national sources, including the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), 10 years ago. With its other title, Ceumannan, ‘footsteps’ in Gaelic, the project is estimated to have helped attract thousands of extra visitors annually to Staffin and encouraged them to stay longer, boosting the local economy as a result.

Here we report a lower jaw from the Middle Jurassic (Bathonian) Duntulm Formation of the Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK, which consists of an isolated and incomplete left dentary and part of the splenial. Morphologically, the Skye specimen closely resembles the Cretaceous neosuchians Pachycheilosuchus and Pietraroiasuchus, in having a proportionally short mandibular symphysis, shallow dentary alveoli and inferred weakly heterodont dentition. It differs from other crocodyliforms in that the Meckelian canal is dorsoventrally expanded posterior to the mandibular symphysis and drastically constricted at the 7th alveolus.

SKYE begins when you leave Inverness, at least that is where the wild, exultant atmosphere of the West first enters into your blood, for then you leave the last outpost of modern civilisation on the winding road to the Isles. As you skim along the road beside lovely Loch Ness a strange excitement fills your mind, the blood runs more quickly in your veins, and you seem to hear the clash of claymores in the wind and the wild cries of the Jacobites. At Invermoriston you take the hill road over to Cluanie and down to Shiel Bridge, where you go to the left over the famous hill to Glenelg and Kyle Rhea Ferry. The road leads down to the edge of the sea, and before you, across the narrow strip of wind- tossed water, lie the beckoning hills of Skye. Here the winds blow fresh and clean and you can feel the sweet tang of the Isles. Eilean a' Cheò is within your grasp. No boat is moored to the rough stone pier. You sound the car horn, whistle, and excitedly wave white handkerchiefs to attract attention on the other side, but your only reward is Thethe soft murmu Cairngormr of the waves lapping on the shore anClubd the sighing voice of the wind.
