FRANK DUFF: A LIFE STORY PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Finola Kennedy | 224 pages | 01 Jul 2011 | Continuum Publishing Corporation | 9781441167477 | English | New York, United States Frank Duff: A Life Story PDF Book Along with a group of Catholic women and Fr. Duff, having concern for people he saw as materially and spiritually deprived, got the idea to picket Protestant soup kitchens as they were giving aid in the form of food and free accommodation at hostels for not attending Catholic services. We use cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience on our website. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Dr Kennedy's research highlights how the Dublin clergy, indifferent to spirituality, feared an organisation which dared to promote mixed membership of men and women. I have no fear of plurality in school patronage where parents desire it. At the same time he felt that trust in lay people should also be accompanied by intense formation of lay people in spirituality and in theology. That said, I believe that the Catholic school retains its particular place which must be fostered. For information on how we process your data, read our Privacy Policy. He served as private secretary to Michael Collins. He retired from the Civil Service in to devote all of his time to the Legion of Mary. In July , the cause of his canonisation was introduced by Cardinal Desmond Connell. Quote of the Day Above all the vision of Frank Duff concerning the priest and laity can only be understood in the context of evangelisation and the salvation of souls.

  • The Mystical Body of Christ in the Spirituality of the Legion of Mary March 2011 by Fr
The Mystical Body of Christ in the Spirituality of the Legion of Mary March 2011 By Fr. Bede McGregor O.P. Spiritual Director to the Legion of Mary The prayer for the beatification of the Servant of God Frank Duff begins as follows: 'God Our Father, You inspired your servant Frank Duff with a profound insight into the mystery of your Church, the Body of Christ and of the place of Mary the Mother of Jesus in this mystery.' There can be no doubt about the truth of the assessment of Frank Duff in this prayer. He loved the Church with his whole being and lived his life in and for her. His vision of the Church was pivotal for him and the Legion of Mary which he founded. For him the Church is a Person. It is the Risen Lord living and acting in his Body the Church. It is in and through and with the Church that he and we legionaries find Jesus. This is truly one of the deepest insights of his life and it is the central truth in the doctrinal and practical life of the Legion. Inseparably connected to this insight is his total conviction concerning the place of Mary in this mystery of the Body of Christ. There are many different images of the Church in both the old and new testaments, in the time of prophecy and in the time of fulfilment. But the image that meant most to Frank Duff and the Legion is the image of the Body of Christ. I have not found in any of his writings or spoken words concepts like the institutional church or the charismatic church so popular in much post- Conciliar discussion.

  • From the Pastor's Desk
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK THE LEGION OF MARY-THE BLESSED MOTHER’S ARMY… There is an old story told about a priest who was greeting his parishioners after mass one sunny Easter morning. He saw a couple that was very friendly but whom he had not seen in church for months, in fact since Christmas! So the priest said, “Listen- I’m happy to see both of you but you need to join the army of the Lord!” The wife said, “Oh Father, we are in God’s army already!” “Then how come I only see you at Christmas and Easter?” The pastor inquired. The husband chimed in, “Father, we are in the Secret Service!” Perhaps many people are in that service since Mass attendance is way down in the Catholic Church. Perhaps some people would not like to think of the Church as an army and it’s members as “Soldiers of Jesus Christ,” but its true to say that as Catholics we are engaged in a battle to save our souls from our enemy the devil. A couple of years ago, I received a book with an interesting title, the title? Onward Catholic Soldier. It’s all about spiritual warfare and how prayer, fasting and right conduct is our armor as followers of Jesus Christ. It’s something interesting to think about. Since Vatican Two, the Church has emphasized that every one of us-not just the priests and nuns have a vocation and that vocation is to holiness of life. Holiness involves not only saying prayers as important as they are.

A list of his works is indicative of the scope of his Marian scholarship: 1) Le Sens Chnitien et la Maternite Divine de Marie (in the 4th and 5th centuries), Beyaert, Bruges, 1929. 2) La Mariologie de Saint Alphonse de Liguori, two volumes (Volume one is an account of the influence of the Saint on the development of Marian doctrine and piety after the difficulties with Protestantism and Jansenism. Volume two deals with the sources of the Saint's doctrine and attempts a synthesis of the thought of the great Marian doctor), Fri bourg, Switzerland, 1931 and 1934 . 3) Marie au Service de Notre Redemption (The role of Mary as New Eve in the economy of redemption) ,Maison Saint-Gerard, Haguenau, 1947.
