Rights of judges and legal consultants not being met KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: It seems that the role of judges and legal consultants have not been spared from the gov- ernment red-tape, which causes delays in establishing rights, sometimes losing them through statute of limita- tion, reports Al-Qabas daily. Even though more than eight months have passed since the National Assembly elections in December 2020, the reward for judges and prosecutors who participated in them has not been paid so far. Also, the reward for those who participated in supervising the by-elections that took place last May has not been paid. This situation reveals a serious administrative imbal- ance between the Ministry of Justice and the Civil Ser- vice Commission, as information indicates that no salaries have been paid to judges for a period of fi ve months under the pretext that there are procedures in their appointment decree that must be completed, and that payments are sup- posed to be paid to them until the completion of those pro- cedures. This delay also applies to the payment of the reward for the evening sessions of the courts, and the reward for lec- tures at the Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies, which are supervised by judges and legal consultants. Khafji gas pipeline in operation KUWAIT CITY, Aug 21: The Khafji gas pipeline to Ku- wait that was offi cially inaugurated last week is currently operating with a capacity of 11 million cubic feet of gas per day, 29 million cubic feet of acid gas and 6,000 barrels per day of condensate through a multi-stage pipeline mea- suring 12 inches and a length of 110 kilometers distributed between the onshore and offshore areas to the State of Ku- wait, reports Al-Anba daily. The sources said after increasing the production of the Khafji fi eld to range between 350 and 400 thousand barrels per day, there will be no environmental impact of carbon emissions, as gas fl aring rates will reach very low rates. The sources said that the Kuwait Gulf Oil Company is on the verge of operating many major projects such the Wafra Operations, where the company is working in full swing to de- liver the existing gas from the Wafra Operations, estimated at 40 million cubic feet to Kuwait, by linking it with the Kuwait Oil Company’s operations area in the West. The sources pointed out all these projects aim to meet Kuwait’s needs of clean energy to operate power plants with natural gas instead of burning the crude oil. NEW YORK, Aug 21, (AP): Technology companies led stocks broadly higher on Wall Street Friday, though the gains were not enough to erase the market’s losses from earlier in the week. The S&P 500 index rose 0.8%, but still posted a weekly loss of 0.6% after two weeks of gains. Even so, the benchmark index is less than 1% from the all-time high it set Monday. More than 80% of S&P 500 com- panies notched gains, including tech sector stocks. Microsoft rose 2.6% and chipmaker Nvidia gained 5.1% for the biggest gain in the index. A mix of com- panies that rely on consumer spending and communications stocks also made up a big share of the rally. Energy stocks also rose, despite another decline in the price of US crude oil. Treasury yields mostly rose. Investors turned cautious this week following some disappointing eco- nomic reports on retail sales, housing and consumer sentiment. Escalating coronavirus infections across the US and around the globe due to the highly contagious delta variant have also given traders reason to pause with the market near all-time highs. “Today was the fi rst day that the market didn’t have to deal with disap- pointing economic data,” said Willie Delwiche, investment strategist at All Star Charts. “We also need to remem- ber it’s a Friday in August, not typically an environment where we look for big signals out of the market.” The S&P 500 rose 35.87 points to 4,441.67. From Iowa to Minnesota Winnebago moves HQ DES MOINES, Iowa, Aug 22, (AP): Recreational vehicle and boat manufacturer Winnebago Industries is moving its corporate headquarters from Iowa to Minnesota, the com- pany said in a statement. Based in Forest City, Iowa, since its founding in 1958, the company said Thursday that the shift to Eden Prairie, Min- nesota, will be effective Dec 1. The company’s executive offi ces have been in Minnesota since 2016 when CEO Michael Happe, former head of Eden Prairie-based lawnmower maker Toro Co., became president and CEO of Winnebago and remained there instead of mov- ing to Iowa. No job losses are planned as a result of the of- fi cial change and manufacturing locations will remain the same, the company said. “Over the past several years, through strategic growth investments, we have expanded our company’s footprint to now include locations in Iowa, Indiana, Florida and Min- nesota. Our Twin Cities location has been and will con- tinue to be an effective resource for executing our vision as a premier outdoor recreation enterprise, as it supports the growth of all of our strong brands,” Happe said in a statement. Winnebago Industries employs about 6,500 employees, about 100 of whom are based out of its Eden Prairie offi ce. The company’s largest presence is in northern Iowa, where it employs more than 2,000 workers in factories in Charles City, Forest City, Lake Mills and Waverly. The company said the Iowa operations will continue to be the manufacturing hub of Winnebago motorhome and spe- cialty vehicles products. The company plans to add workers in the next 12 months to meet increased demand for recrea- tional vehicles. The company makes motor homes, travel trailers, fi fth- wheel products, boats, and commercial community outreach vehicles under brands including Winnebago, Chris-Craft and Newmar. It recently acquired Barletta Pontoon Boats. The company reported in June record quarterly revenue of $960.7 million for its third quarter, which ended in May, a 138% increase from the same period the year before. Sales have boomed during the coronavirus pandemic as consumers have sought camping vacations rather than trave- ling on airplanes or visiting crowded public areas. The company said consumer demand has created a back- log of more than 46,600 towable campers worth $1.52 bil- lion and a backlog of 18,145 for its signature motor homes valued at $2.18 billion.

China’s rover soldiers on Japan plans to bring Mars samples by ’29

TOKYO, Aug 21, (AP): Japan’s space agency plans to bring soil samples back from the Mars region ahead of the US and Chinese missions now operating on Mars, in hopes of fi nding clues to the planet’s origin and traces of pos- sible life. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, plans to launch an explorer in 2024 to land on the Martian moon Phobos to collect 10 grams (0.35 ounce) of soil and bring it back to Earth in 2029. The rapid return trip would put Japan ahead of the United States and China in bringing back samples from the Martian region despite starting later, project manager Yasuhiro Kawakatsu said in an online news conference Thursday. NASA’s Perseverance rover is op- erating in a Mars crater where it is to collect 31 samples that are to be returned to Earth with help from the European Space Agency as early as 2031. China landed a spacecraft on Mars in May and plans to bring back samples around 2030. JAXA scientists believe about 0.1% of the surface soil on Phobos came from Mars, and 10 grams could contain about 30 granules, depend- Kawakatsu ing on the consistency of the soil, Kawakatsu said. Collecting samples from multiple locations on Phobos could provide a greater chance of obtaining possible traces of life from Mars than obtaining soil from a single location on Mars, he said. Past scrutinized Mike Richards out as ‘Jeopardy!’ host LOS ANGELES, Aug 21, (AP): Producer Mike Rich- ards stepped down from his brief tenure as host of “Jeopardy!” after a report about past misogynistic comments surfaced this week and following a drum- beat of criticism about his selection and how it was made. Richards was chosen last week as the successor to Alex Trebek, a decision that was seen as divisive from the beginning after the show had embarked on a search that included actors, sports fi gures, journalists and celebrities. Earlier this week, The Ringer website revealed de- meaning comments about women, the homeless and others that Richards had made on a 2013-14 podcast, “The Randumb Show.” The clips were removed on- line after the report was posted. “Over the last several days it has become clear that mov- ing forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show,” Richards said in a note to the “Jeopardy!” staff on Friday. LIVERPOOL, England, Aug 21, (AP): Liverpool marked their fi rst game in front of a capacity crowd at Anfi eld in nearly 18 months by beat- ing Burnley 2-0 on Saturday, with goals by Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane earning their team a second straight win to open the season. Jota, who scored the fi rst goal in Liverpool’s 3-0 victory at Norwich last weekend, glanced in a header off a cross by left back Konstanti- nos Tsimikas in the 18th minute in front of The Kop. Mane struck home a powerful, low shot from a central position from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deft pass in the 69th. Since the last time there was a full house at Anfi eld - in March 2020 - Liv- erpool have won the league title for the fi rst time in 30 years and relinquished it to Manchester City. So there was something of a party atmosphere for what ended up being a routine win against Burnley, which had claimed a shock victory in the same fi xture last season to end Liverpool’s 68-game

SOCCER unbeaten run at Anfi eld in the league. Tsimikas is set to lose his place in the team, with Andrew Robertson returning to fi tness after a minor ankle ligament injury. The Greek defender’s parting gift was an assist from a pinpoint delivery into the penalty box, where Jota got in front of Burnley center back Ben Mee and guided a header low past goalkeeper Nick Pope.
