Chairman’s report

• Three new trustees have been appointed and one of the founding trustees resigned.

• Arrangement have been developed for the appointment of a Trustee from Aberdeenshire Council and this should occur during the coming year.

• The trustees met the 2nd Tuesday of every month over the last year.

• We contracted Walking the Talk to provide us with ecological, design and quantities information for planting, seeding and path development on the site at a cost of £2352 which was paid directly, as a contribution to the park’s development as one of their projects, by Inverurie Community Council.

• New digitised mapping was put in place so that our geo- referenced base map could be regularly updated. Records have been kept covering the reasons for any changes.

• The core path network has been designed, funded, contracted and installed.

• A new emergency and management gate entrance has been installed off the Souterford road. This is currently pad locked.

• Cracks in the main metalled path through the site have been repaired by the addition of tar.

• Discussions have been held with the developer of an adjacent estate about the siting of a new bridge over the River Ury that will link an upgrade the western part of the park’s path network with the Meldrum Meg way and allow access to the site by a wider range of local residents and pupils from the Uryside School.

• We have produced and agreed an initial rough design of the entrance and had at least three informal quotes for its construction. A more formal architect design and specification

5

will now be produced to enable more formal quotations to be submitted. It is hoped the entrance will be constructed in late 2019.

• A meeting was held between the paths contractor and one of the trustees in order to assess necessary works to alleviate/mitigate flooding on parts of the main path network.

• An informal agreement in principal has been reached with Gauld’s Gas for equipment storage on the periphery of their site.

• We acquired H&S equipment + green caps and instituted insurance for volunteers.

• We became members of Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action.

• Funding for key developments has been achieved as follows although most of this has been through the efforts of the landowner (Aberdeenshire Council):

A further half day occurred on the 15/12/2018 when stakes and guards were checked and another 95 trees were planted (set back) infront of Gauld’s Gas.

• We have agreed to undertake compensatory tree planting on site (for works in ) amounting to £5.8K, the work to be completed by 12/10/2023 at the latest (likely to be done this coming year).

Trustee recruitment and appointment

was appointed as a trustee.

9

Achievements and performance The main activities of the trustees through the year was to finalise plans on the delivery of the plan. The leader funding focus changed within the year to relate only to planting which meant that plans to complete the park in phases changed and allowed for plan to plant throughout the park. Work on the path network was then prioritised to allow for planting to be undisturbed. The securing of forestry commission funding for tree planting areas allowed for a successful community tree planting day.

The charity has

• Delivered a network of paths in the park that is being used extensively by the community.

• Planted over 1000 trees with the help of the local community

• Agreed contracts for planting throughout the park and the creation of a utility grassed area which should be delivered in 2019.

• Had trustees trained to tackle Giant hogweed and consulted with Deeside trust and the council to work together in 2019.
