Frehner won the prestigious Pethick Memorial Award for outstanding contribution and dedication to the SMMHA in 2014-15, and served as president of the association the following year. Three other seasons he will also cherish are the ones when his son Ben played Midget hockey in town. Ben was a member of back-to-back provincial Addi- tional-Entry Midget championship teams. The Ruth- erford Midgets defeated Norwood in 2012-13, and the Legion Branch 236 Midgets defeated Colling- wood in 2013-14. The following season, Frehner and the Cement Midgets reached the 'BB' final, but had to settle for second to South Muskoka. Frehner noted that his son and Remco Scheele are the only SMMHA players to play in an OMHA final all three years of Midget.
