NASCAR Sponsorship: Who is the Real Winner? An event study proposal A thesis submitted to the Miami University Honors Program in partial fulfillment of the requirements for University Honors with Distinction by Meredith Seurkamp May 2006 Oxford, Ohio ii ABSTRACT NASCAR Sponsorship: Who is the Real Winner? An event study proposal by Meredith Seurkamp This paper investigates the costs and benefits of NASCAR sponsorship. Sports sponsorship is increasing in popularity as marketers attempt to build more personal relationships with their consumers. These sponsorships range from athlete endorsements to the sponsorship of an event or physical venue. These types of sponsorships have a number of costs and benefits, as reviewed in this paper, and the individual firm must use its discretion whether sports sponsorship coincides with its marketing goals. NASCAR, a sport that has experienced a recent boom in popularity, is one of the most lucrative sponsorship venues in professional sports. NASCAR, which began as a single race in 1936, now claims seventy-five million fans and over one hundred FORTUNE 500 companies as sponsors. NASCAR offers a wide variety of sponsorship opportunities, such as driver sponsorship, event sponsorship, track signage, and a number of other options. This paper investigates the fan base at which these marketing messages are directed. Research of NASCAR fans indicates that these fans are typically more brand loyal than the average consumer. NASCAR fans exhibit particular loyalty to NASCAR sponsors that financially support the auto racing sport. The paper further explains who composes the NASCAR fan base and how NASCAR looks to expand into additional markets.

Comments on August 1, 2018 Planning Commission agenda items, received July 26-30 Items 1a/b, South Nashville Community Plan Amendment/Fairgrounds Mixed-Use District -----Original Message----- From: John Bernatavitz [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, July 30, 2018 10:30 AM To: Planning Commissioners Subject: Major League Soccer is what Nashville needs; so please support the proposed stadium! Dear Members of the Planning Commission, The 2018 World Cup said it all. What a great event! Nashville could also potentially share in the sport the binds the world together. I support the proposed Major League Soccer Stadium and renovation to the Fairgrounds Nashville. Professional sports teams in Nashville have turned into major brands that are recognized across their various leagues. The Predators not only hosted the NHL All Star weekend not long ago but are widely hailed as having the best home ice advantage in hockey. The Titans, on the heels of their incredible new uniform update ceremony, were selected to host next year's NFL draft at Ascend Amphitheater. Professional sports always have, and always will greatly benefit not only the neighborhoods where they play, but the city as a whole. I would ask that you seize this opportunity to make history with us and vote to approve this soccer stadium as well as the accompanying fairgrounds renovations. I recently went on a trip to Belize, and in the small village of Hopkins, Belize, I and my wife had the privilege of experiencing the World Cup final between Croatia and France with many people throughout the world in this village.

Dear SCCA Media Partners, Welcome to what is truly a new era of the Sports Car Club of America, as the SCCA National Champi- onship Runoffs heads west for the first time in 46 years to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, made possible with the help of our friends and partners at Mazda and the Sports Car Rac- ing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), was met with questions at its announcement that have been answered in a big way, with more than 530 drivers on the entry list and a rejunvenaton of the west coast program all season long. While we haven’t been west of the Rockies since River- side International Raceway in 1968, it’s hard to believe it will be that long before we return again. The question on everyone’s mind, even more than usual, is who is going to win? Are there hidden gems on the west coast who may be making their first Runoffs appearance that will make a name for themselves on the national stage, or will the traditional contenders learn a new track quickly enough to hold their titles? My guess is that we’ll see some of each.

  • Post-Hurricane Katrina 'Hero'
Contact: Laz Denes, 256-717-8014 [email protected] www.smith-wesson-racing.com Post-Hurricane Katrina ‘Hero’ Named Honorary Crew Chief For Smith & Wesson NASCAR Busch Series Team at California SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (August 31, 2006) – Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary, 154-year-old global provider of products and services for safety, security, protection and sport, honors its third law enforcement hero of the 2006 NASCAR Busch Series season as Deputy Chief Anthony Cannatella of the New Orleans Police Department will serve as honorary crew chief of the #30 Smith & Wesson Chevrolet team of SKI Motorsports and veteran driver Mike Bliss at the Sept. 2 Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway. Cannatella, the latest in a line of law enforcement heroes honored by Smith & Wesson in partnership with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Grand Lodge national headquarters, is being recognized for his gallant and heroic leadership in commanding the rescue and relief efforts of the NOPD’s Sixth District in the aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina disaster that began a year ago this week. In the devastated portions of uptown and mid-city New Orleans, Cannatella, a 39-year police veteran, remarkably kept all but two of his 112-member force together during and after the storm. They rode it out together in the Sixth District Station, proceeded to clear roadways in the immediate aftermath so that his fleet could attend to disaster victims, then manned a combination food and water distribution center and citizen evacuation site in a Wal-Mart parking lot that became his command and control center.
