Situation Report on Cold Wave

Weather Forecast

Forecast: Weather is likely to remain dry with tempo. partly cloudy sky over the country. Thick fog

may occur over the river basins and moderate to thick fog may occur elsewhere over the country during mid night till noon.

Cold wave: Moderate to severe cold wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and it may continue.

Temperature: Night and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The lowest minimum temperature of the country is likely to be (04 – 05)°C and the highest maximum temperature may be (26 – 27)°C.

Earthquake Occurrence Earthquake: An Earthquake occured in Myanmar-India Border region with magnitude 5.9 (Moderate) at 07hours 41 minutes 52 sec BST on 09 January, 2013. The epicentre was 495 km north east from Earthquake observatory at Agargaon, Dhaka.

Other Responses:

 With the financial and technical assistance of UK AID through Chars Livelihoods Program (CLP), SKS Foundation has distributed 1245 pieces of blankets in Lalmonirhat Sadar and Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district on 10th December 2012. We are grateful to the donor on behalf of the destitute inhabitants of Lalmonirhat district.

 SKS Foundation distributed 13,160pcs of blankets at Ulipur, Chilmari, Rangpur Sadar and Mithapurkur upazila with the financial supports of CARE-Bangladesh. The above upazilas covered under SHOUHARDO-II, SETU and PRODUCE projects working areas. A number of 6,634 families were covered under this initiative.

 In collaboration with Action Aid Bangladesh, SKS Foundation distributed 450 blankets and 400pcs sweaters among enlisted children of AWARE Project at Fulchari upazila under Gaibandha district.
