Professional experience:

1996 - 2018 Director, ArtReach – cultural consultancy and event delivery Established by David Hill in 1996 ArtReach (www.artreach.biz) comprises two companies: ArtReach (Events) Limited, with offices in Maidenhead and Leicester and ArtReach (Trust), a not-for-profit company initially established to lead on development of specific creative projects and programmes. With achievement of ACE NPO status (at Band 2) ArtReach (Trust) is now the main vehicle for the company’s work and has full ownership of the former private limited company, ArtReach (Events) Ltd. ArtReach has a twenty year track record of providing a unique range of specialist support to help drive successful arts projects and activity. Its mission is to “make great art possible and accessible”.

The agency works nationally (with projects in most regions) and internationally (work in Spain, India, Germany, Romania, Italy, Hungary and Bulgaria), and delivers to four areas of work - capital arts and heritage projects (including feasibility studies); organisational development (development/business plans, vision and strategies and board development); public art projects (commissioning and project managing); festivals and events (including work as an independent Creative Producer). Fundraising is integral to all areas of ArtReach work.

With a portfolio of over 250 clients ArtReach supports theatres, museums, galleries, arts centres, festivals, heritage projects, dance companies, music organisations, carnival groups, Local Authorities and funding agencies (including Arts Council (ACE) and Sport England) ArtReach works with many culturally diverse clients including the Asian Arts Agency, London Notting Hill Carnival, Milton Keynes Islamic Arts Group, New Art Exchange, Ebony Steelband, EMCCAN and Nottingham Asian Arts Council. As a Creative Producer ArtReach also creates its own events - see www.nightoffestivals.com and www.journeysfestival.com ArtReach is a key “Framework Consultant” for Arts Council England, delivering discreet consultancy to support the NPO portfolio.

Until recently completing his seven year Term, David was a Trustee (Vice Chair) of Curve, Leicester’s producing theatre. He is currently a Trustee of Winchester Theatre Royal, Chair of Winchester Hat Fair (the UK’s oldest street arts festival) and Chair of Leicester Arts Festivals. Over the years he has been an Advisor to three ACE regional offices and an assessor for the ACE Capital 1 programme and for Arts for Everyone. Norden Farm Centre for the Arts ArtReach was responsible for the initial development and construction of Maidenhead’s new arts centre as its first major capital project 1996-2000. The £10 million development encompassed two listed buildings and new build. In 2008 ArtReach worked with Norden Farm once more to secure new funding sources 2000- Capital projects In addition to full project direction of the new- build Norden 2008 Farm Centre for the Arts, ArtReach played a major role as Lead Consultant for the development of Cornerstone (Didcot), The Peepul Centre (Leicester), and the New Art Exchange (Nottingham), as well as playing a role in capital developments at Wysing Arts Centre, Woking Gallery and 21 South St (Reading). ArtReach work encompassed Business Planning, fundraising, board and vision development.

1994-5 Director, the Arts Management Centre (Newcastle)

Creating, marketing and delivering arts management and fundraising training programmes such as The National Arts Fundraising School, Capital Fundraising, Trusts and Foundations, Corporate Fundraising, How to Win the Lottery!. 1994 Freelance - Producing and directing the Official Tribute to

Securing sponsorship from Channel 4 and BBC TV through Michael Grade and Alan Yentob.

Working with a range of agents, TV and film companies to secure engagement from many leading producers, directors, writers and actors who worked with Potter. Programming, producing and directing the Tribute with a cast including Alan Bates, Gemma Craven, George Baker, Imelda Staunton, Jim Carter, Frank Finlay, Douglas Henshall, Maggie Stead, Bernard Hill, Kika Markham and . Developing and directing a debate on the future of new television writing with a panel chaired by Sheena McDonald and with Michael Grade, Alan Yentob, Piers Haggard, Renny Rye, Alan Plater, and Chris Dunkley.

1991-4 Education/Associate Director, The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham

Producing and directing a major New Theatre Writing Festival and establishing a Playwright Forum and writer feedback initiative. Working with playwrights including David Edgar, Barrie Keeffe, Peter Nicholls and David Wood. Programming and directing main house and studio shows (including Belonging, Family Affairs, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Jane Eyre, The Way of the World, The Mystery Plays, The Terrible fate of Humpty Dumpty, A Caucasian Chalk Circle, Zigger Zagger). Devising, performing in and leading large scale Theatre in Education projects and shows.

1988-91 Artistic Director, Theatre Station Blyth in Northumberland

As Chief Executive of the company, developing the project and ultimately managing a full time team of fifteen professionals and 100 full time community trainees (of all ages from 18-60). Trainees were all long term unemployed people (many ex-miners) with an average length of unemployment of eight years and many with moderate learning disability and literacy/numeracy needs.

Programming, commissioning, devising and directing many shows and projects including work for conventional theatres (Live Theatre, Newcastle Playhouse, Gulbenkian), schools, day centres, hospitals and other non-theatre spaces Shows included WarBonds, Stitch-Up!, Project 7, Black-Eye’d Susan, The Tale of the Cornwoman and The TV Addict. Working with writers such as Andy Griffin and Tom and Pauline Hadaway.

Achieving three, consecutive successful European Social Fund applications

Winner of a National Training Award for theatre work with adults with moderate learning disability. Short listed Sainsbury’s Arts in Education awards (one of three short-listed with the RSC winning)

Leading many theatre and drama workshop programmes with elderly people, adults with learning disability, people recovering from mental illness, children and young people in community, hospital and day centre settings. 1981-86 Marketing Director, Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre

Member of the senior management team under Richard Johnston during two major capital refurbishments and with responsibility for establishing the theatre marketing and publicity dept. Responsible for all press, advertising (including TV/radio), direct mail, print and programmes, audience development and education work for this major two thousand seat theatre. Programming responsibilities in conjunction with the Theatre Director.

Working with international dance, opera, ballet and drama companies (Bolshoi, Houston Ballet, Welsh National Opera, Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet and the National Theatre) and with high profile entertainment stars (Danny La Rue, Cilla Black, Frankie Vaughan, Ken Dodd, Cannon and Ball etc)

Achieved an average 90% increase in audiences over five years. Responsible for implementation of computerised box office and marketing facility at the venue.
