LAST GAME Saturday, March 27, 2021 – Flyers 2, NY Rangers 1 at Wells Fargo Center: Samuel Morin scored with 4:27 remaining in the third period to snap a 1- 1 tie and lift the Flyers to the win over the Rangers, ending a four-game losing streak. The Rangers took a 1-0 lead on a power play goal by Mika Zibanejad a little past halfway through the first period, but the Flyers were able to knot it up on a PPG from Nolan Patrick with 7:08 left in the second period, setting the stage for Morin’s winner. Brian Elliott turned away 24 Rangers shots to secure the victory, while Igor Shesterkin made 42 saves in a losing cause. Stars of the Game: 1 – Samuel Morin; 2 – Nolan Patrick; 3 – Igor Shesterkin.

Samuel Morin’s goal was his first in the NHL. A first-round pick of the Flyers in 2013 (11th overall), Morin had missed most of the past three seasons (2017-20) with injuries, first a core-muscle injury and then two separate ACL tears. Morin had three shot attempts, one hit and one block in 12:48 of ice time.

The Flyers’ 17 shots on goal in the first period were the most they’ve had in an opening period this season. The last time they had that many in a first period was on Nov. 17, 2019 when they had 18 vs. Montreal.

Travis Konecny was credited with five hits. It’s his third game this season of three hits or more.

The Flyers were 35-for-53 (66.0 pct) on faceoffs in the game. Sean Couturier was 15-for-19 (78.9 pct) while Claude Giroux was 8-for-13 (61.5 pct).

NOTES OF THE NIGHT

The Flyers have picked up four power play goals over the last three games, going 4-for-9 in that period, after going 0-for-10 in the four games prior to that. The power play tallied in six out of seven games from March 4-15, going 7-for-24 (29.2 pct) in that seven-game stretch.

Claude Giroux recorded his 500th career even-strength point with his goal on Thursday night. He becomes the fourth Flyer to hit that plateau, joining Bob Clarke, Bill Barber and Brian Propp. Giroux is 10 points away from passing Propp for third overall in franchise history in scoring.

Sean Couturier recorded his second consecutive two-point game on Thursday, with three goals and an assist over the last two contests. Couturier has nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in his last 20 games since returning from injury on February 7. He has at least a point in 16 of those 20 games.

Joel Farabee leads the Flyers with 14 goals on the season. That also leads the league among all players age 22 or younger. Twelve of those goals have come at even strength.

Ivan Provorov is averaging 25:07 of ice time per game, which ranks eighth in the league.
