American band The Score will take the centre stage in the LANXESS arena in Cologne on 2 June ahead of the final match of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 and again just before the award ceremony. In the lead-up to the final match, Eddie Anthony and Edan Dover will perform their hit ‘Legend’, which has more than 23 million views on YouTube. The American band will warm up the crowd also before the award ceremony with their energetic song ‘Born For This’. The New York-born and Los Angeles-based duo started in 2015 but has already reached hundreds of millions in cumulative streams within three years’ time with their two EPs ‘Unstoppable’ and ‘Myths & Legends’ and a 2017 full length debut, ‘ATLAS’. The duo’s music genre juggles between rock, pop, indie and electronic, making their music omnipresent in movies and television as well. Their songs have been placed in campaigns for the NFL play-offs including the Super Bowl, NBA, Jeep and Daytona 500.

5 Unveiling of the Ball of Fame In order to honour the past winners of the VELUX EHF Champions League and the successful development of the VELUX EHF FINAL4, a handball monument will be erected in front of the LANXESS arena. The ‘Ball of Fame’, designed by an Austrian artist, will look like a giant handball surrounded by glass displays showing the event’s winners. Handball will therefore become a permanent part of the grounds of LANXESS arena and the ‘Ball of Fame’ shall serve as a photo opportunity for everyone.

The Outfit of Champions – Get it now! The new merchandising range for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 is being unveiled at the draw for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in Cologne on 7 May 2019. The collection, developed together with the Official Sports Outfitter of the VELUX EHF Champions League, Salming, will be available online at merch.ehfcl.com as well as at the event itself on 1/2 June 2019 and the Opening Party at the LANXESS arena on Friday, 31 May. On top, a limited edition of the t-shirts with the logos of the 4 participating clubs printed on the back will be on-sale on-site.

Premiere of the kids detective novel One of the new additions for the 10th edition of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 is the kids detective novel. The Handball-Detectives: Alarm at the Arena (“Die Handball-Detektive: Alarm in der Arena”) by Julie Larsson is an exciting mystery story about a group of kids who are trying to catch a pickpocket but while doing so realize that something bigger is about to happen in the LANXESS arena during the pinnacle event of the men’s club handball season. The book is written in German and can already be ordered online at www.philippka.de/shop/ handball/die-handball-detektive-alarm-in-der-arena.html. The novel will also be available in the LANXESS arena during the event for the price of 9, 95€.

New official app The VELUX EHF FINAL4 will once again have its official event app, but this time with a new addition, exclusive only to the app – the All-star Team vote. The app is available to download now for iOS and Android devices and is a must for every handball fan with all VELUX EHF FINAL4-related information included. For the first time, the official event app will offer all fans the possibility to vote for their All-star Team of the season. The fan vote is exclusive to the app, which means fans who wish to cast their vote need to download it. In the build-up to the event as well as during the 10th VELUX EHF FINAL4 anniversary edition, fans will have the chance to win special prizes through the Contest tab. The milestone 10th VELUX EHF FINAL4 will, for the first time, see players tracking technology with data available through the app together with the iBall. For everyone interested in facts and figures, the app will offer full statistics, accessible with just a few clicks. This special data and interesting insights will give the fans a memorable second screen experience during the event.

6 Fan integration in the opening shows To pay the tribute and honour the spectators’ support, fans can actively play a role in the Opening Shows. Besides using pictures from our 10 fingers for 10 years campaign, fans have the possibility to record a short clip in the Entertainment green box during the Opening Party on Friday. The clips will then be shown at the Opening Show for the 3 / 4 placement match on Sunday.

Players tracking joins iBall in the next step of match data collection After the successful launch of the iBall at the VELUX EHF FINAL4 2018, the collection of game data will be further improved by players tracking in 2019. Together with partner KINEXON, a company which is focused on the development of precision localization and motion sensing solutions, a large scale of match and players data will be collected during the four matches of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in Cologne. A regular handball field setup from KINEXON consists of roughly 14 anchors and one sensor worn by each player. The sensor is placed between the shoulders of the athlete, on the back, with the help of a specific sport shirt. Previous tests by KINEXON proved that the light sensors (15g) are barely ever noticed by the players and are thus not influencing their athletic performance. Together with the iBall, which will be capturing information such as ball speed, shot detection, position of the shot and placement of ball on target, it will give a second-screen-service for the spectators at the venue and the fans in front of the TV. On the other hand, it will serve as detailed performance information for the players, coaches and officials. The fans and spectators will see a selected part of the data on TV, at the cube in the hall, on social media and in the dedicated area of the VELUX EHF FINAL4 App.

Third edition of the European Handball Talks After two successful editions, the European Handball Federation and EHF Marketing are hosting European Handball Talks in Cologne’s Palais Flora. Taking place one day before the VELUX EHF FINAL4, European Handball talks will again be a place to be for the professionals from the fields of sports, marketing and media. This year, the focus will be on the importance of brand management and community building in the digital age.

In addition, the handball environment will be examined; taking into consideration the impact of professionalization on the game at all levels, both on and off the court. International experts and stakeholder representatives will present their ideas for the future of handball. Media can register here: http://www.ehfFINAL4.com/EHT2019

Ticket sale to start for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in 2020 The sale of tickets for the VELUX EHF FINAL4 in 2020 will start during the final weekend, at the ticket shop in the LANXESS arena. Online ticket sales will then begin in the week after the final tournament in Cologne on 1 and 2 June.
