Here in Maine we can get around the world Priest’s Message Becoming Spiritually Healthy

s Orthodox Christians, we are familiar with a mar- tyric faith in Christ, a faith that bear witness to our belief in Jesus as the Son of God and Savior of all man- kind. We read the lives of the who bravely contest- ed for their beliefs and this gives us courage and hope. And although we do not have many stories about the battles of the faithful against the plague or black death that spread throughout Europe and the Middle East in times past, our principles of faith in action can lead us through this pandemic to a state of spiritual health. So how do we become spiritually healthy?

First, let us proclaim “Christ is Risen!” to all around us and especially each other, for this is the foundation of our beliefs. Jesus has conquered sin and death and opened the gates of paradise to all! Next, the Saints and Fathers of the Church, along with God Himself, calls us to a balanced life of prayer, wor- ship, fasting, reading of Scripture. This leads us to greater communion with God. And even though, at the pres- ent time, most of us are denied participation in the sac- ramental life of the Church, we can still grow spiritually. Resources - Prayer

Of all the spiritual armament available to us, perhaps prayer is the least understood and sometimes the least uti- lized. This most powerful weapon against the evil one can bring peace where it does not seem possible. Be certain, I am referring to personal prayer in the quiet of your home. Got Church News? We are disappointed to inform you that for personal reasons, Doreen Cote has decided to resign as treasurer, from the parish council, and as chairperson for the festival. We appreciate the hard work and time sacrifices that Doreen has contributed to our church. We all thank her for her time and efforts and pray that God will help her with the current struggles, which she faces. At a special council meeting, Saturday morning, we elected Stella Gammai- toni as the new treasurer and David LeGloahec is continuing as Assistant Trea- surer. Thank you, Stella and David for stepping forward to help our church. We thank Father Jon, George, Makrina, and Roger for keeping our services going on Facebook Live. Tomorrow’s blessing, which Father and George have organized, will be a great step forward toward our physically coming together soon. Please remember, if you will be going into the church to light a candle or say a prayer to please bring clean- ing supplies to clean any surfaces that you may touch. Together we can make this a success! Thank you everyone for your contributions – your kind and supportive words, your work, and your financial donations. Constantine did not become a Christian CONSTANTINE AND HELEN, until well into his time as emperor. His first THE GREAT SOVEREIGNS AND EQUAL-TO-THE-APOSTLES major battle in which he was vastly outnumbered May 21 against the infamous Maxentius in Rome hastened his conversion. A bright image of the cross- appeared to him in the sky surrounded by stars in the light of day. The inscription read, “In this sign, conquer!” An image of the cross was built and carried before his army that vanquished Maxentius and caused him to drown himself in the Tiber River. He then issued the Edict of Milan, which ceased the Christian persecutions. Around this time, Constantine contracted leprosy and doctors and idol-worshipping priests could not heal him. They suggested he bathe in the blood of sacrificed children, which he refused. The Apostles Peter and Paul appeared to him in a vision and sent him to see a certain Bishop Sylvester who instructed, baptized, and healed him. He also built the city of Constantinople, resplendent with cathedrals, churches, and the absence of pagan temples. Equally important, he attacked the heresy of Arianism by calling together the greatest minds of Christianity at the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea and there set in motion its demise. He also declared Sunday a public holiday. His mother, Helen, was said to be the daughter of the lyrical King Cole. She had beautiful churches built at the sites of Christ’s Nativity, the Holy Sepulcher, the Ascension, as well as others. She also discovered the cross of Jesus and the two others buried under a temple. Both Constantine and Helen died early in the fourth century.
