Hola Mexico!

West Craven Geography teacher Mrs Price will be spending this half term in Mexico with four other teachers after winning a Rainforest Alliance and Tui Care Foundation competition designed to provide peer-to-peer training and a once in a lifetime professional development experience. Mrs Price found out about the competition on a Geography teachers’ social media forum and after registering her interest in the challenge, was tasked with teaching a Sustainable Tourism topic to students. Mrs Price worked with Year 9 students at West Craven High School to come up with ideas for a sustainable tourism resort. She submitted photos and work from the project and was shocked when she received a call during the summer holidays to say she would be one of five teachers from across the UK to be heading to Mexico in October. We can't wait to hear all about it when Mrs Price returns after the half term break.

PSHE and Careers Day

Tuesday, 15 October was our first Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Careers Education collapsed curriculum day, aimed to help prepare students for life by developing the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. Offering a broad curriculum, for all years, exploring healthy living, sexual health, positive relationships, careers, citizenship, British values and safeguarding students through our Prevent sessions – equipping students to make well informed decisions. Year 11 students were treated to four sessions of interactive workshops around life beyond West Craven High School and the Year 12 choices available to them. Sessions were put on by post 16 options liaison team members, Craven College admissions and apprenticeship staff, Nelson and Colne College tutors for A Levels, vocational options and apprenticeships and Accrington and Rossendale vocational and apprenticeship teams. Students reported, “It was really useful, I have made a timeline of things I have to do now and prepare for the rest of this year. I didn’t know that I had to speak to employers now, if I want an apprenticeship next year. I found it extremely interesting, thank you!”
