This means that the members of Parishes in the Dioceses of Hallam and Nottingham have contributed towards the cost of building the school and continue to care for its buildings and its people. It is a Catholic voluntary academy in which the Governing Body is responsible for admissions. It is guided in that responsibility by the requirements of law, by advice from the Diocesan Trustees, and its duty to the Catholic community and the Common Good. The school provides distinctive, Christ centred, Catholic education for children aged 11 to 18. As a Catholic school, we aim to provide a Catholic education for all our pupils. At a Catholic school, Catholic doctrine and practice permeate every aspect of the school’s activity. It is essential that the Catholic character of the school’s education be fully supported by all families in the school.

ISSN 0417 0687 125 A SHORT LIFE OF I. CHARLES COX (by Canon Maudce Abbott, Ince Blundell Hall, Back O'Th Town Lane, Liverpool, L38 5JL) First impressions stay with us, they say; and ever since my school days when my parents took me with them on their frequent visits to old churches, I have maintained a constant interest in them. This became a lifelong pursuit on my 20th birthday, when my father gave me a copy of The Parish Churches ot' England by J. Charles Cox and Charles Bradley Ford. In his preface, written in March 1935, Mr Ford pointed out that Dr Cox's English Parish Church was lirsl published in 1914, and was the recognised handbook on its subiect. In time the book became out of print and it was felt that a revised edition would be appropriate, because Cox was somewhat discutsive in his writrng. The text was pruned and space made for the inclusion of a chapter on'Local Varieties in Design'. This was based on Cox's original notes on the subject and other sources. I found this book quite fascinating and as the years went by I began to purchase second-hand copies of Cox's works and eventually wanted to know more about the man himself.

  • Objection to the Old Whittington Lane and Church Street, Unstone (Prohibition of Motor Vehicles) Order 2019
Author: Bridget Gould Public Ext: 38579 Agenda Item No. 4(c) DERBYSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING OF CABINET MEMBER – HIGHWAY, TRANSPORT AND INFASTRUCTURE 10 October 2019 Report of the Executive Director – Economy, Transport and Environment OBJECTION TO THE (OLD WHITTINGTON LANE AND CHURCH STREET, UNSTONE) (PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES) ORDER 2019 (1) Purpose of Report To inform the Cabinet Member of an objection following the public advertisement and consultation on the Old Whittington Lane and Church Street, Unstone (Prohibition of Motor Vehicles) Order 2019 which is currently being progressed under the delegated powers of the Executive Director – Economy, Transport and Environment for Traffic Regulation Orders. (2) Information and Analysis Background In December 2018, following extensive consultation and public engagement events, approval was given to the shared use cycle path along the B6057 between Dronfield and Unstone, which included the County Council advertising any Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) to facilitate its implementation. The Cabinet Member requested to see any representations made as a result of any advertised TROs. As part of the construction of the proposed cycle path, it will be necessary to prohibit motor vehicles from entering Church Street and Old Whittington Lane from the B6057 in order to construct a continual cycle path across these access roads. In order to achieve this, it was necessary to advertise a TRO to prohibit motor vehicles. This was advertised on street and in the Derbyshire Times from 6 June 2019 to 28 June 2019 and received one objection, from Unstone Parish Council The objection reads as follows: “The council objects to the proposed closure of both roads as the closure will create a disproportionate amount of traffic on neighbouring roads, especially on Crow Lane at school drop off and pick up times.

  • Rural Discontent in Derbyshire 1830·1850
RURAL DISCONTENT IN DERBYSHIRE 1830·1850 Alan Frank Jones Submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of History University of Sheffield January 2004 ii Alan Frank Jones RURAL DISCONTENT IN DERBYSlllRE 1830-1850 ABSTRACT Social protest, especially in agricultural regions, has occupie~ and caused considerable debate among, historians for many years. This thesis seeks to add to this debate, by looking at various forms of protest in Derbyshire between 1830 and 1850. This thesis examines three aspects of criminal activity: poaching, arson and animal maiming. It contends that none of these crimes can simply be categorised as acts of protest. In conjunction with an investigation of these three crimes, acts of protest such as strikes and episodes of reluctance to conform are also discussed. It argues that the motives behind various criminal activities and anti-authority behaviour were varied and complex. Arson and animal maiming were rarely co-ordinated, mostly they were individual attacks. However, on a few occasions both arson and animal maiming were directed against certain people. In the instances of poaching, there were more proven cases of gang participation than in either arson or animal maiming, with groups of men raiding game preserves. However, the great majority of raids were individual undertakings. What is more, poaching was carried out on a greater scale throughout the county than either arson or animal maiming.
