Hello Race Fans, I’m Buddy Long. And Welcome to this weeks edition of Short Track Showdown. Hagerstown Speedway: On Saturday, the dirt track racing world in Western Maryland paid their yearly tribute to the legendary Johnny Roberts by honoring the famed race car driver in the latest Memorial event. The race, run annually, served as the latest round for the Three State Flyers Series, which normally attracts the best drivers in the region. When the dust settled, Delaware driver, and defending Winchester Speedway track champion Mark Pettyjohn nailed down an impressive win in front of 27 drivers. Pettyjohn fended off the efforts of World of Outlaw Series regular Rick Eckert of York, Pennsylvania for the win, while fellow Delaware native Austin Hubbard was third. Jason Covert, the defending series champion came home fourth with Mechanicsville, Maryland’s David Williams scoring an impressive 5th place run. Local driver Steve Long also made the tow, finishing 16th in the field, while Jamie Lathroum was unable to start the event. Hagerstown will return to action this weekend with their annual Back to School Small Fry Night. On tap will be 18th annual Cornett Tribute, which will feature a 20 lap Pure Stock Special. Drivers in that class will qualify via time trials. The Late Model Sportsman and Hobby Stock classes will also be in attendance with the kids getting an early visit from Santa Claus. Potomac’s Van Meter Memorial Rained Out, ARDC Midgets this weekend: Activities this past Friday night at Potomac Speedway fell victim to the severe weather in the area, thus canceling the night’s activities, headlined by the Gene Van Meter Memorial for the Super Late Models. The track will be back in action this Friday as the ARDC Midgets will be in town. Also on tap is a 25 lap Sumer Sizzler Double Points race for the Street Stocks, offering $500 to win. The Crate Late Models, Hobby Stocks, and U Cars will also be on the schedule for an 8pm start. Feathers 7th Different Winner at Winchester: Bo Feathers added to the parity in the Super Late Model Division Saturday night at Winchester Speedway, becoming the 7th different winner in that class this year. Feathers topped Mechanicsville, Maryland’s Dale Hollidge for the win while Waldorf’s Kenny Moreland came home 3rd. Completing the top 5 were Kyle Hardy and Trevor Feathers. The ARDC Midgets will also visit Winchester this weekend along with the Limited Late Models, Pure Stocks. The U Cars will be participating in the 1st annual Hunter Crane Memorial, paying $500 to win Virginia Motor Speedway Washed Out: For yet another time this season, Mother Nature laid claim to the top honors at Virginia Motor Speedway, washing out activities at the Jamaica, Virginia track.
