Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. In the first part of the last century, Our Blessed Lord appeared many times to Saint Faustina, a Polish nun. As Our Lord appeared, he instructed her that she was to share the image of his ap- pearance with the world, and to spread devotion to his Divine Mercy. The image, which I am sure is a famil- iar one, is of Jesus standing at the center with darkness around him, and from his heart two rays of light ema- nate forth: one red, representing the blood shed from His Most Sacred Heart; one white; representing the wa- ter that gushed forth from the Font of Mercy. That im- age was blessed on the First Sunday after Easter (which is the same feast as today), and Our Lord instructed her that this day is to be known as a Feast of Mercy.

Interestingly, the Heart of the Lord, which was pierced for our transgressions, is the source of the light that flows forth. It is the same wound that Jesus invites St. Thomas to touch today. He invites the doubting, obsti- Project Rachel Information nate, stubborn Thomas to touch His side and to receive Mercy.
