Eastern Illinois Players On All-OVC Preseason Team • Senior linebacker Cory Leman was named a semifinalist for the William Campbell Trophy last week which recognizes the top academic football player among all Offense levels of college football. A total of 127 nominees were named to the semifinalist Eric Zink - offensive guard list covering FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA football. Leman who Defense has already graduated with a 3.75 GPA in kinesiology and sports studies was one Artavious Dowedell - defensive end of three players from the Ohio Valley Conference on the list. Others from the OVC honored included Nick Newsome from Austin Peay and Emory Attig from EKU.

The 1982 - Quarterfinals Panthers have lost four straight Family Weekend games. The last 1983 - First Round win for EIU on Family Weekend was 2006 when EIU shut out 1986- Quarterfinals Southeast Missouri 21-0. In 2009, EIU hosted EKU on Family 1989 - Quarterfinals Weekend with the Panthers falling 36-31 to the Colonels. 11,271 1995 - First Round people watched that contest making it the 9th largest home crowd 1996 - First Round in EIU history. 2000 - First Round 2001 - First Round • Eastern Illinois enters the weekend ranked first in the OVC in 2002 - First Round kick off returns but eighth in the conference in punt returns. EIU countered with yard kick off return for touchdown by Tavares Crawford in a nice ground game of its own as Jake Walker had 88 yards the final seconds of the second quarter. Crawford finished and a touchdown. The Panthers did force two turnovers and with 190 yards on five returns as he set up the Panthers third appeared to have a third on JSU 10-yard line that was ruled quarter score with a 53-yard return. Matt Scheible rushed a down by contact call. for 161 yards scoring two touchdowns on the ground while passing for three more. EIU quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo passed for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
