Identifier: 14229 Title: Febiger - Christian Carson Febiger (1845-1930) Type: Reference Subject: People Description: Christian Carson Febiger (1845-1930) was born on April 2, 1845 to and Sarah (Tatnall) Febiger in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the great grandson of Hans Christian Febiger (1749-1796), an American Revolutionary War commander, confidante of General and an original member of the Society of the Cincinnati. Known as "Old Denmark", he also served as Treasurer of (1789-1796). Old Denmark was married to Elizabeth Carson (1750-1817). They had no children, but adopted Elizabeth's nephew, Christian Carson Febiger (1787-1829), son of Dr. (1752-1794) and Agnes (Hunter) Carson (1755-1829). Dr. Carson was a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania. The adopted son, Christian Carson Febiger (1787-1829), became Southwest Harbors Christian Carson Febigers grandfather.

Christian Carson Febiger (1845-1930) married Katherine or Catherine Megear Sellers (1852-1917) , daughter of William Sellers and Mary (Ferris) Sellers, on June 5, 1877. Christian was a partner in a publishing firm that distributed medical works. The company became Lea & Febiger in 1907 when Christian Febiger joined Charles M. Lea and Arthur H. Lea (Lea Brothers Inc.) whose firm had its origins in 1785. The company sold to Waverly Inc. in 1990. Christian was a life member of the Zoological Society of Philadelphia, a Director from 1890 and President for the year April 1925-April 1926. Christian Carson Febiger died on August 25, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Febigers lived at 3421 Powelton Avenue , Philadelphia from 1896 at least until Christians death. The property went to Drexel University in 1952.
