Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Elise and the Gold Gloop by S.B. Davies S.B. Davies. At the age of six, my daughter was a good reader for her age, but refused to start reading “proper books” with chapters and no pictures. She was bored with “Horrid Henry” and fairies saving a rainbow yet once more and insisted that she was old enough to read proper books, but every one she tried was “too difficult”. It wasn’t she couldn’t read them, it was the concepts and storylines; they were all designed for nine and ten year olds. There was another problem too. She wanted to read about girls, yet all the books about girls we could find were twee and dull. My daughter is happy to read about a princess, along as she is a Ninja Princess; happy to save rainbows, as long as it involves a good sword fight or perhaps a well-planned heist. After a few months of this, my lovely daughter stopped reading. We tried most of the “first chapter books” that people recommend; all met with disinterest. So I asked her exactly what she wanted in a “proper book”. After much though, she wrote down: “Dragons, princess, zombies, vampires, ghosts, but not spiders and it should be funny and scary and have fighting in it.” We couldn’t find such a book with concepts and vocabulary suitable for a six year old – so I wrote one. I had written novels before, but not a children’s book, so I had help from my daughter to find the right level.

To use another overblown metaphor, clubs are also the essential fabric out of which the rich, variegated tapestry of the game’s history has been woven.

  • Belconnen Magpies Seniors
“Progressing Junior Football in the Greater Belconnen Region” A Strategic Plan 2009 - 2011 Belconnen Magpies Football Club (A brief history) The history of the Belconnen Magpies Football Club is one that has travelled along many different paths, at times under the one banner, and at other times simultaneously under separate banners. The various clubs in the past, that have been the Belconnen Magpies Football Club have all added there own dimension to our now great football club, and contributed to the character and spirit now experienced by our club's current players, coaches, training staff, and supporters. The Belconnen Football Club and The West Canberra Football Club amalgamated in the late 80's early 90's to create the now stronger than ever, Belconnen Magpies Football Club . Both of these clubs possessed their own unique culture, history and also their own origins. THE BELCONNEN FOOTBALL CLUB The Belconnen Football Club adopted the navy blue jumper and white monogram when it entered the competition in 1971. These colours were chosen to align with the colours used by the Turner Football Club. The different design was to reflect the move to the Belconnen district, a new area, new clubhouse and new future. Slight modifications were made to the monogram over the years and the navy blue graced the Canberra footy fields until 1986. During that time the club was based in its own licensed premises effectively known as the "Shed" at Jamison. In 1986 Belconnen Amalgamated with The West Canberra Football Club. They became known as the Belconnen Magpies, and played in the black and white stripes, alternating between the "Shed" and West Canberra's licensed premises in Kippax as their home.
