She clocked 11.32s in the final. This is the first gold medal for India at this edition of the games. No Indian had qualified for the 100-metre final in the history of the University Games before this. Source : India Today AIR INDIA ALLOWS HAJ PILGRIMS TO CARRY HOLY ZAMZAM WATER ON FLIGHT Air India has stated that pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia after Haj will be allowed to carry holy water from the Zamzam well within the permissible baggage allowance. Source : NDTV INDIA'S ANSHULA KANT IS WORLD BANK MD AND CFO The World Bank Group announced that Anshula Kant, an Indian national, has been appointed its next MD and CFO. Ms. Kant will be the first woman CFO of the Bank. Ms. Kant holds an Honours degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College and a post-graduate degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics. Source : The Hindu DRDO CARRIES OUT THREE SUCCESSFUL NAG MISSILE TESTS IN ONE DAY IN POKHRAN Moving closer toward the induction of the Nag anti-tank guided missiles into the Army, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out three successful test firings of the missiles in the Pokhran firing ranges. "The missiles were test-fired during both day and night during the trials. All three tests were successful," DRDO officials said. Government sources said the missile is in the final stages of being inducted into the Army. The NAG missile is a third generation anti-tank guided missile, which has top attack capabilities that can effectively engage and destroy all known enemy tanks during day and night. The order is to produce 1,000 units of Barak 8 MR-SAM missile kits over the next four years to be supplied to India’s state-run defence manufacturer Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) for further integration. Source : The Economic Times BUSINESS LEADERS UNITE TO SET UP A WORLD-CLASS TECH UNIVERSITY More than 40 top CEOs and entrepreneurs, mostly IIT and IIM alumni, have come together to set up a Rs 2,000-crore project that involves setting up a university with a sharp focus on engineering directly aimed towards bolstering entrepreneurship and a home-grown startup ecosystem. Plaksha University, named after the mythical tree of knowledge will come up in Mohali in 2021. With a campus spread over a vast area of 50 acres, the institute will focus on core engineering, deep technology such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and mathematics. It has already entered into a MoU with Stanford Research Institute for joint research and has made collaborations with other Ivy League names such as Berkeley and Purdue Universities. SPACE TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is using the space technology in its projects for various applications such as crop production forecasting, soil resource mapping and geo-tagging. However, its use to promote gender equity and empower girls and women is often overlooked because sport is not universally perceived as a suitable or desirable pursuit for girls and women. Today the empowerment of women in games and sports has become one of the most important concerns of 21st century. But practically women empowerment in games and sports is still an illusion of reality. It is observe in our day to day life how women become victimized by various social evils. Women empowerment is the vital instrument to expand women’s ability to have resources and to make strategic life choices. Empowerment of women in games and sports is essentially the process of upliftment of economic, social and political status of women, the traditionally underprivileged ones, in the society. Today sports and physical activity as a strategy for the empowerment of girls and women has been gaining recognition worldwide. According to the IAAF Hyperandrogenism Regulations, a right of appeal before the CAS is only given in respect of an IAAF decision. However, the IAAF can agree to the determination of the validity of the Hyperandrogenism Regulations by the CAS despite the fact that the athlete’s right of appeal should have been exercised before a national level body. Furthermore, according to Article 178(2) of the Swiss Federal Code on International Private Law, if an objective appraisal of all the facts establishes a mutual intention to subscribe to arbitration by the CAS - such as an implicit acceptance of the athlete’s offer to submit the dispute to the ad hoc jurisdiction of the CAS - then the CAS has jurisdiction to determine the case for the purposes of Swiss law. 2. The burden of proving that the Hyperandrogenism Regulations are invalid is on the athlete. If the athlete establishes that the Hyperandrogenism Regulations are prima facie discriminatory by reference to a higher ranking rule or otherwise, on the balance of probabilities, the burden then shifts to the IAAF to establish that they are justifiable as reasonable and proportionate to justify the discrimination.

Soon after her historic win, Dutee Chand tweeted: “Pull me down, I will come back stronger!” The tweet was Dutee’s way of answering her critics, who have time and again raised doubts over her gender and questioned her personal choices. “That message was for my family, my elder sister Saraswati and mother Akhuji, who are against my same-sex relationship,” Dutee told TOI from Napoli. “The gold medal is my reply to them and to all my critics that I can manage both my personal life with my chosen partner and the athletics career. I don’t need their advice. I am mature enough to make my own decisions. This medal should silence all who have been talking rubbish about me, my existence and my choice of soulmate,” she said. In Napoli, the 23-year-old from Odisha’s Chaka Gopalpur village clocked 11.32 seconds to win the gold, leading the race from start to finish. She was the first to get off the blocks in the eight-woman final and thwarted a late challenge from Switzerland’s Del Ponte (11.33s) to finish on top. Lisa KwaYie of Germany took the bronze in 11.39s. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event organised for university athletes held every two years.
