Ontario’s Big City Mayors – Project Coordinator

Ontario’s Big City Mayors (OBCM) is comprised of the Mayors of Ontario cities with populations of 100,000 or more. Collectively, Ontario’s Big City Mayors represent nearly 70% of Ontario’s population.

OBCM provides a voice for big city mayors in policy debates that impact Ontario cities. Through policy development, advocacy, discussion and partnerships, Ontario’s Big City Mayors support strong and effective cities.

OBCM achieves this by:

• Forging relationships with the federal and provincial governments, municipal organizations such as the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and other stakeholders. • Meeting with government ministers and representatives to voice the perspective of big cities and work together to achieve shared goals. • Taking public positions on key issues and opportunities that affect big cities. • Sharing information, data, research, and resources among members and with other governments, stakeholders, and organizations. • Participating in government policy consultation processes as the voice of Ontario’s big cities.

Mayor Jeff Lehman, City of is the current Chair and Mayor , City of is the Vice-Chair.

Reporting to the Principal Secretary in the Chair’s Office, this position is responsible for the daily administrative support for the Caucus including:

• liaising with Mayor’s Offices and staff • coordination of meetings • scheduling meetings with Mayors Offices, provincial and federal Ministers as required • assisting with coordination of advocacy meetings and events • assisting with agenda preparation and materials • responding to inquiries from Member municipalities • general financial administration including budgeting, processing yearly invoices for 29 member municipalities • preparing press releases, correspondence and briefing notes • policy research and liaising with contractor to develop policy documents as required • preparing speaking notes and materials for Chair • maintaining current contact information for 29 Member municipalities and Mayor’s Offices. • Supporting Standing and Ad Hoc Committees

The ideal candidate will have:

• Progressive experience in municipal government; • Diploma/Degree in public administration, political science, law, business administration or related field; • AMCTO Accredited Municipal Professional, Diploma in Municipal Administration, Municipal Administration Program, or similar; completed or being pursued would be an asset.

This is a contract position to December 31, 2021, with the possibility for renewal once an Executive Director is hired in January 2022.

Compensation: $25/hour
