By Michael Cuneo Fayette’s offensive line features just one senior in Jordan Bridges, who will return to the left , with Jordan Jackson at the left guard position. Junior Jor- dan Darden will secure the other side of the line at right tackle, and junior Ayden Payne will anchor the line at center. Junior Chaz Milling will start at right guard on the line.

DEFENSE Fayette will base out of the 4-4 defensive set, allowing the team a level of flexibility while putting key players in position to make big-time plays. The defensive line will be anchored by defensive ends Jordan Jackson and Car- los Wall. Coach Davis said both players have natural talent and possess the ability to pick up accolades as the season progresses. “Jordan Jackson has a shot to be an all-region player. He played real well for us down the stretch last year.” Davis said. “Carlos Wall will be a rising sophomore, and we’re excited about his growth and potential,” Canaan Johnson also seeing some playing time at the edge-rushing position. Seniors Jordan Bridges and Elijah Olive will work together as the interior of the defensive line. Senior Donald Godfrey and junior Brandon Moss maintain the in- terior positions at linebacker, while Desmond Waters and Keion Bryant, who will also slide up to weak safety depending on the situation, will handle the outside linebacker positions. In the secondary, Dustin Waters and Nicholas Taylor make up the free safety position. Kyle Butler and Cameron Williams will take the starting roles at the cor- nerback position, with sophomore Marcus Collins also rotating in at the position.

SPECIAL TEAMS Fayette will have freshman Josh Hosmer punting the ball, with Nollie Brown also competing for the role. Kyle Butler, Keion Bryant, and Phoenix MICHAEL ORUSA Moss will handle return duties for the team. Long snapper and rising senior Matthew Wilson return sto the team. Coach Davis praised Wilson for his devotion to the game as well as the program. “He loves Fayette County football,” Davis said. “He’s just one of those kids, from an athletic standpoint, who is a big kid and hasn’t really been able to get any time on the offensive line or defensive line, and he comes in every day and works hard. I mean, he loves Fayette County football.”

ANALYSIS Fayette County boasts an extensive roster, and despite not having as many seniors as previous seasons, they still have enough veterans to make an impact. Both sides of the ball will see familiar faces as many of the team’s best players start in multiple positions. For Fayette, the and special teams seem to be the areas that will need the most work. On the other hand, the offense features several talented players at running back and wideout. The only area of weakness on offense is the line, which will only have one returning senior. Coach Davis did not mince words when addressing complacency, stating that it is vital for the team to start the season off with a winning record. “Now, because of what happened last year, on August 20 against Midtown, if you drop that game, everyone’s going to say, ‘Oh, it was a fluke, they the old Fayette,’” Davis said Fayette opens up their season at home against Midtown, a team that they beat last year 20-14. A win in the opener would be huge for Fayette as it would solidify the efforts of both the players and the coaching staff. Only time can tell, but the Fayette County Tigers seem primed for a season of success. 2021 ROSTER 2 Nick Taylor 10 26 Max Calloway 11 58 Joshua Montgomery 11 3 Kevin Gillespie 12 27 James Abrams 12 59 Jayden Scott 10 4 Keion Bryant 12 30 Myles Howard 11 60 Jordan Darden 12 6 Austin Jones 11 31 Aidan Carstarphen 11 61 Derrick Dargan 10 7 Ryan Hannah-Brown 12 32 Carlos Wall 10 62 Markell Maupin 11 8 Kyle Butler 12 33 Itohowo Ubom 10 64 Jeremiah Dickens 10 9 Brandon Moss 12 34 Chase McDowell 9 65 Paton Dalton 11 10 Isaiah Reynolds 10 35 Zaciah Young 12 66 Elijah Olive 12 11 Phoenix Moss 10 36 Justin Barrow 10 71 Mathew Wilson 12 12 Kai Jett 12 40 Andre Claridy 10 72 Nick Mitchell 12 13 Eric Hence 10 41 Michael Graham 12 74 Chaz Milling 12 14 Cameron Williams 11 42 Canaan Johnson 12 77 Jordan Jackson 12 15 Kamran Kilpatrick 11 43 Donald Godfrey 12 80 Rashad Desota 10 16 Demarcus Guerra 10 44 Courtlin Wooten 10 82 Josh Hosmer 10 17 Desmond Waters 12 45 Khameron Gilbert 10 84 Andre Key 10 18 Dustin Waters 12 46 Terrance Bell 10 86 Spencer Fleming 10 20 Effrim Neal 10 50 Darien Williams 12 88 Prince Akintoye 12 21 Solomon Brown 9 51 Nollie Brown 10 93 Dylan Hawkins 11 22 Marcus Collins 11 52 Michael Orusa 12 23 Julian Hall 11 54 Caleb Offutt 10 JORDAN BRIDGES 24 Javon Graham 10 55 Jordan Bridges 12 25 Marcus Griffin 12 56 Ayden Payne 12 like boththesekids. By Michael Cuneo Another larger-than-life athlete will start on the Chief offense as 6’5” junior Theo Elwell will line up at the tight end position, giving the team another large target and durability in securing the edge rush. Anchoring the offensive line is senior Nick Kallas, whose fiery competitive drive and ability to finish blocks will suit him well at the center position. At the guard position senior Josh Artiles and junior Grant McKenzie will be tasked with pulling, running, and plenty of athletic workload as the team’s fast-paced offense requires it. McKenzie will also see time on the defensive end of the ball. At tackle, Michael Figueroa-Bueno and Ian Fisher will secure the perimeter. Coach Belknap joked that if the team cannot find a way to make the offense work with these types of players, the coaches’ “coaching cards” should be taken away. The level of optimism is high, and, with a healthy amount of talent, it will be up to the offense to start the year off with a bang.

DEFENSE Two-way starter Ian Fisher returns as a dominating force on the defen- sive line. Junior Lionel Liburd, senior Connor Price, sophomore Oche Iloh, and junior nose tackle Austin Tanner make up the rest of the defensive line. Juniors Jake Gregory and Simon Lewis will start at linebacker, and senior Dev- on Patchus will start at middle linebacker. Coach Belknap had only good things to say about Patchus, mentioning that his strength in the locker room makes him a perfect fit for a middle linebacker. “He’s a fabulous athlete and super strong in the weight room.” At safety, sophomore Rahtrez Barber, junior Andy Elwell, and senior Scott Groome will lock down the passing game as a part of the team’s three-safety sec- ondary. Senior Armaan Jabrani and junior Marcus Malone will start at the corner- back positions for the Chiefs.

SPECIAL TEAMS Sophomore Arthur Richez will handle the team’s kicking and punting duties, and Connor Price will handle long-snapping chores. Armaan Jabra- ni and Marcus Malone are the lead options in the return game. THEO ELWELL ANALYSIS Despite having a young nucleus on both sides of the ball, McIntosh wants to leave last season behind and bring back a winning tempo. The team is banking on a couple of promising yet inexperienced star players on offense, meaning there could be an adjustment period until they hit a rhythm. Defensively, the Chiefs will need solid play from two-way players to keep opposing offenses in check. The positive aspect of having a young core group of players is future potential. If McIntosh can accelerate the growth to this season, they can achieve a winning record. 2021 ROSTER 1 Marcus Malone, Jr. 11 29 Santana Cody 9 66 Joshua Dorris 9 2 Emeka Iloh 12 30 Aaron Ajie 10 67 Austin Tanner 11 3 Blake Hiley 12 31 Soma Hall 10 68 Nick Kallas 12 4 Armaan Jabrani 12 32 Devon Patchus 12 70 Avery Bryant 10 5 Simon Lewis 11 36 Frank Nevarez 9 71 Grant Fegley 9 6 Andy Elwell 11 40 Scott Groome 12 72 Alejandro Vicencio 11 7 Rahtrez Barber 10 45 Matthew Woods 10 74 Josh Artiles 12 8 Omar Gonzalez 11 47 Brandon Falconer 10 77 Boris Zdravkov 10 9 Tate Morris 11 48 Austin Fegley 11 78 Grant Boullion 11 10 Brennan Field 10 49 Jeremy Willingham 9 80 Jack Silcox 9 11 Jayden Jackman 10 50 Cole Campbell 9 83 Henry Julian 9 12 Noel Jimenez 10 51 Grant McKenzie 11 84 Theo Elwell 11 13 Bryce Langaard 12 52 Drew Moore 11 85 Evan Lisitza 10 14 Jahcir Murphy 11 53 Jacob Dalton 11 87 Connor Price 12 16 Joaquin Maldonado 9 54 Lennon Liburd 10 88 Maddox Dykeman 9 18 Elliott Sturbaum 9 55 Ian Fisher 11 89 Isaiah Harbin 10 19 Cole Langaard 10 56 Landen Reeves 9 91 Lionel Liburd 11 20 David Kienast 9 57 Jake Lutz 9 93 Cian Vandergrinten 9 22 Mason Green 10 58 Michael Figueroa-Bueno 11 98 Uche Iloh 10 23 Tucker Morris 12 59 Cooper Ruck 11 99 Arthur Richez 10 24 Jake Gregory 11 60 Hayden Reeves 12 25 Zach Proffitt 9 62 Dean Gregory 10 ANDY ELWELL 26 Kamaj Stovall 11 63 Emmett Fisher 9 28 Roderick Barber 10 64 Tony Jimenez 11 to getbacktheirwinningways, they’llneedasolidstartyearfullofpotential. from theprogramtoNFL.However, thepastisjustthat, inpast.IfPatriotswant star-studded history. By Michael Cuneo Garvin touched on the ability of wideout Miles Thornton in particular. “He’s not gonna be the super-fast guy; he’s a bigger guy,” Garvin said. “He’s re- ally smart and understands how to run routes. That’s about as important nowadays, with these complex offenses that people run, is knowing how to run the routes to get open. You end up being open a lot more than you probably should be just because you know how to run routes.” The offensive line may be one of the Patriots’ most significant strengths as the team has plenty of size to secure the quarterback and create lanes in the running game. Juniors Michael Muldrow, Jerall Joyner, Adam Buffkin, Sage Ford, and sopho- more Justin Moore make up the offensive line. “Adam is the smallest one we got, and he’s 5’11 230 pounds,” Garvin said. “The other four are gonna average around 6’4” 285 pounds, so they’re big.”

DEFENSE The defensive line for Sandy Creek will be anchored by returning starter and junior Travis Franklin. Asaru Holloway and Jordan Cohen will end up starting, as well as freshman DaMarius Willabus-Payne. At linebacker, juniors Marcellius Pulliam, Kenneth Thomas, and Joel Reid make up the defense’s interior. At outside linebacker, the team will feature many players, including Mathis Haygood, Jakob Gude, Charleston Davis, and Braylin Blackburn, who will all rotate in and out of the position. The Patriots secondary consists of standout Kaleb Cost and Josh Walker with Ta- KALEB COST vis Franklin, who will play at safety. The rest of the secondary will be determined by committee, assessing who can make the jump once the season starts.

SPECIAL TEAMS Two-sport senior Dylan Appo takes over kicking responsibilities for the team. Apo plays goalkeeper for Sandy Creek’s soccer team, making him quite familiar with kicking a ball, even if this one is shaped a little bit differently. Miles Robinson will handle long-snapping duties for the team. Josh Walker and Kaleb Cost will take most of the team’s return responsibili- ties with occasional rotation of other young players.

ANALYSIS Sandy Creek loves to win, and current circumstances have put a great hindrance on that ability. With a complete offseason, the team must learn to work together to regain the winning status. It won’t be easy for the Patriots as their team primarily consists of sophomores and juniors, but, like any team, it’s a matter of finding where players fit and utilizing them to the best of their abilities. The home opener takes place Aug. 21 against Northgate, a team the Patriots beat 28-14 in last season’s home opener. If everything works out for Coach Garvin and the team, they should improve from last year and find themselves in the playoff hunt. 2021 ROSTER 1 Josh Walker 12 27 Kenneth Thomas 11 66 Kaleb Dunn 9 2 Asaru Holloway 12 28 Malique Croom 11 67 Jaden Fountain 9 3 John Phillips 12 29 Kevin Woodie 10 69 Alex Elling 11 4 Karleston Davis 11 30 Jace Ferguson 10 72 Adam Buffkin 12 5 Denver Robinson 12 31 Travius Franklin 11 74 Brendan McWhirter 12 6 Cameron Watts 11 32 Joseph Cooper 11 75 Chaz Johnson 9 7 Travis Franklin 11 33 Jordan Cohen 10 76 Jerall Joyner 11 8 Marcellius Pulliam 11 34 William Lyles 11 77 Justin Moore 10 9 Dylan Apo 12 35 Dalen Penson 9 78 DaMarius Willabus-Payne 9 10 Joel Reid 11 36 Mark Hill 9 80 Keyshon Kenney 10 11 Jordan Little 11 37 Da’Marco Hayes 9 82 Carter Mason 10 12 Mathis Haygood 11 38 Damion Hodrick 9 83 Matt Hill 9 13 Jakob Gude 10 39 DeMarian Ross 9 84 Jace Campbell 10 14 Geimere Latimer 11 40 Christian Hollins 10 86 Jaden McDaniels 9 15 Pryor Shelton 11 41 Jase Marshall 11 88 Michael Hairston 9 16 Arlington Burney 11 42 Dylan Thompson 10 89 Dayveon Pauldo 9 17 Rich VanZant 9 43 Elyjah Smith 12 90 Jonathan White 9 18 John Hopson 11 44 Darius Bartley 10 91 Noah Evans 12 19 Miles Thornton 12 46 Carl Anderson 11 92 Jimmy Bray 9 20 Amir Adams 11 48 Tybri Singletary 9 93 Sincere Foster 9 21 Kaleb Cost 11 50 Herman Witcher 12 94 Itah Edet 9 22 Braylin Blackburn 11 53 Miles Robinson 11 95 JayShaun Walker 9 23 Dorian Graham 11 54 Nick Dais 12 96 JaQuan Walker 9 24 Wes Middlebrooks 9 56 Sage Ford 11 97 Jadiah Glen 9 MICHAEL MULDROW 25 Mason Miranda 9 59 Michael Muldrow 11 98 Jaylen McLester 9 26 Gander Bah 11 60 Thomas Bailey 11 STARR’S MILL PANTHERS

The Starr’s Mill Panthers have earned the right to get greedy. Winning five-straight region 2021 SCHEDULE championships isn’t going to cut it anymore, they’re hungry to hoist the big trophy. Most of the 2020 campaign was beautiful. After a season-opening overtime loss to Class Aug. 21 Newnan 7A playoff team East Coweta, the Panthers reeled off nine-straight wins, including a 63-6 Aug. 27 Mt. Zion round one trouncing of Mundy’s Mill. It ended in round two with a disappointing 24-9 home loss to Coffee, a defeat that still stings. Sept. 3 Union Grove They will kick off their 2021 campaign for the crown on August 21 as they host Class Sept. 10 at Sandy Creek 7A Newnan to cap off the new Fayette-Coweta Kickoff Classic. It’s an ambitious opener, but the Panthers know if they want to be playing deep into the playoffs, they have to be Sept. 24 at Harris County battle-tested. Oct. 1 Norghate Oct. 15 at Griffin OFFENSE It starts under center with William Yarbrough returning at quarterback. He had his growing pains as a sophomore, and he’s ready to break out as a junior. Oct. 22 at Whitewater “Any time the man that touches the ball every time is back, that’s a good sign,” said Oct. 29 McIntosh Starr’s Mill coach Chad Phillips. Yarbrough will be backed up by promising freshman Logan Inagawa. Nov. 5 Northside Andersen Cardoza is slated to start at A-Back, with Greigh Joseph at B-Back and Brandon Mathis running the Z. Jameson Inagawa is ca- pable of stepping in at all three spots. Evan Slagel and Reese Nuscher lead the way at wide receiver. All-purpose weapon Marc Stampley will also see key snaps on offense. “We want him to touch the ball as much as possi- ble.” Josh Phifer is a matchup problem for defenses at tight end, and he is backed up by Cole Manetti. The development of the offensive will be key, as they will be plugging in a nearly all-new crew. William Thomas, Carson Andrew, and Micaiah Shaber can line up at tack- le, while Connor Ritchey, Colton Smith, and Nicho- las Carbuccia battle it out at guard. Adam Sands will GREIGH JOSEPH anchor the line at center. WILLIAM YARBROUGH DEFENSE Starr’s Mill has a brick wall up front. Yale commit Micaiah Shaber and massive Darrien Doster anchor the interior, with Barrett Schmidlkofer and Tyler Glover crashing off the edge. Andre Laurent and freshman Jared Moore offer enticing depth. The linebacking corp is still coming into focus with six talent- ed players duking it out for three starting spots. Ben Thompson, Dorsey Benefied, Christian McFall, Zach Stevenson, Colin Bar- tek, and Evan Bartek are all in the mix. Will Clem, Nikita Jones, and Jeremiah Stuart are the top con- tenders at cornerback. Marc Stampley patrols the deep secondary at one safety spot, with Josh Thompson and Bo Walker slated for big roles.

SPECIAL TEAMS Talented sophomore Max Prozny has earned the coaches’ confidence with his ability to handle all kicking and punting chores for a team that expects excellence on special teams. Barrett Schmidlkofer and Austin Cummings will handle longsnapping. Will Clem and Bo Walker team up with Marc Stampley in the return game. “Will and Bo, it’s their job to catch the football. Stampley’s job is to take it to the house.” ANALYSIS For Starr’s Mill, expectations start with a region WILLIAM THOMAS championship at a minimum, and there’s no reason to think they will relinquish the crown after winning five in a row. Even playing against improved competition, the Panthers return veteran talent all over the field and have to be considered the favorite. The real question comes in the second season. If their offensive line gels and the promising linebacking corp rounds into shape, all the pieces are in place for the Panthers to still be playing deep into the postseason. 2021 ROSTER 1 Josh Layton 9 26 Ben Thompson 12 51 Evan Bartek 9 76 Darrien Doster 12 2 Noah Scott 10 27 Jacob Free 11 52 Nicholas Carbuccia 12 77 William Thomas 11 3 Brandon Mathis 12 28 CJ Ware 11 53 Dominic Buck 9 78 Carson Andrew 12 4 Andersen Cardoza 10 29 Charles Cochran 10 54 Zack Berger 10 79 Christopher Peckett 9 5 Jameson Inagawa 11 30 Ethan Stewart 9 55 Micaiah Shaber 12 80 Andrew Hamilton 10 6 Barrett Schmidlkofer 12 31 Jack Stevens 11 56 Connor Ritchey 11 81 Marcus Uhland 9 7 Gino Jean-Paul 9 32 Bryan Akin 12 57 Emory Slagel 11 82 Lathan Hunter 9 8 Jeremiah Jones 11 33 Nikita Jones 11 58 Lautaro Bueno 10 83 Conor Stone 10 9 William Yarbrough 11 34 Zack Benefield 12 59 Bryce Hargrove 12 84 Tyler Glover 11 10 Colin Bartek 12 35 Jamie McMorris 10 60 Alex Light 11 85 Tristan Ferris 9 11 Bo Walker 10 36 Austin Cummings 11 61 Jordan Yoder 11 86 Davis Smallwood 9 12 Reese Nuscher 12 37 Christian McFall 12 62 Pete West 10 87 Josh Phifer 11 13 Will Clem 10 38 Max Prozny 10 63 Evan Nuqui 12 88 Lincoln Delaere 9 14 Antonio Joseph 9 39 Makoa Serapion 10 64 Trevor Gapp 9 89 Cole Manetti 10 15 Greigh Joseph 11 40 Zach Stevenson 12 65 George Barthel 11 90 Chapman Andrew 10 16 Jeremiah Stuart 11 41 Caleb Brown 9 66 Preston Burrus 11 91 Jacob Spitznagle 10 17 Logan Inagawa 9 42 Taylor Ratinaud 10 67 Jared Moore 9 92 RJ Atchison 9 18 Kelly Doney 9 43 Russell Logan 10 68 Alex Coxton 9 93 Caleb Dummond 9 19 Miles Scott 12 44 Ethan Bramblett 10 69 Eli Bort 9 94 Andre Laurent 11 20 Cayden Mullins 10 45 Ethan Chiumento 9 70 Micah Freeman 9 95 Uriah Guzman 9 21 Diego Delgado 9 46 Carson Schmidlkofer 10 71 Blake Cutter 9 96 Jaden Knolton 9 22 Marc Stampley 12 47 Mo Macias 9 72 Wilks Kenny 9 97 Thomas Deslyper 9 23 Dorsey Benefield 10 48 Josh Thompson 12 73 Carter Daniel 9 98 Carson Andrew 12 WILL CLEM 24 Evan Slagel 12 49 Connor Miranda 9 74 Ben Anderson 9 99 Nasir Cole 11 25 Jorden Scott 10 50 Colton Smith 10 75 Adam Sands 12 WHITEWATER WILDCATS

Last year was a good start for the Wildcats, but they think they’ve just scratched the sur- face. Facing long odds as they introduced a new head coach and had to install a new offense 2021 SCHEDULE with extremely limited interactions due to COVID-19, Whitewater limped out of the gate Aug. 21 East Coweta (at SMHS) with a 1-4 start. They could have gotten down, but they got to work, bouncing back to finish the regular season winning 4 out of 5 games to return to the postseason. Aug. 27 Fayette County This offseason was a bit more normal for Coach Chad Frazier and his staff, and it Sept. 3 Locust Grove showed. “It was nice this summer to bring them all together to participate in 7 on 7s and padded Sept. 10 at Central Carrollton camps,” Frazier said. “I feel like we’ve progressed significantly from where we were a sum- Sept. 23 at Northside mer ago. It was a little taste of success, and Frazier’s crew wants more. “Getting them to work and getting them to compete, that part’s been kind of easy,” he Oct. 22 Starr’s Mill said. “They do a great job of rallying and supporting each other. There’s a real hunger with- Oct. 29 at Northgate in our group to win and be successful.” Nov. 5 Harris County OFFENSE The Wildcats’ Wing T offense will be in the hands of lefty Austin Williams. The dual-threat QB got a good taste of action last year with two starts, but it’s all his show now, and he hasn’t shied away from the challenge. “I’m excited about what he brings to the team, not only as an athlete but also his leader- ship and his character,” said Frazier, noting that Williams regularly joins him to talk Xs and Os and watch film during lunch. “His work ethic is top notch.” Ty Ellington is his primary backup, with promising sophomore Camden Reese nipping at his heels. All three backs return, with Braxton Mueller at A-Back, Dalton Bonner at B-Back, and Adeoluwa Erinle at Z. Xavier Clay-Turner, Hakeem King, Logan Griffith, and Nathan Wallace offer valuable depth. Colin O’Brien, Boyton Cheney, and Jaylon McClendon lead the way at wide receiver, with Ty Ellington lining up in the slot. Braxton Mueller can also split out wide. The top three tight ends gradu- ated, but the cupboard is far from bare. Will Snellings and TJ Hill lead the way, followed by Wyatt Carden and Remington Ponder. The offensive line returns intact. John Raines is back to anchor the line at center, with Ethan Crawford and Jaxson Gier at guard. Ethan Boelsterli and Bryson Phipps return at tackle, but they are both facing a fierce challenge from Ty- ler Huttenloch. Jonathan Navakas and Blake Elsenpeter will see WILL SNELLINGS snaps at guard. AUSTIN WILLIAMS DEFENSE The defensive line will be a big strength for the Wildcats. It’s a blend of veterans and youth, but they all boast a lot of game experience. Seniors TJ Hill and Remington Ponder roam the edges, with sophomore Jonathan Navakas and junior Stephen Johnson inside. Xavier Campbell and Ashton Brown offer depth on the outside, with Tyler Huttenloch and Jaxson Gier on the interior. A trio of formidable juniors form the linebacking corp in strong side backer Will Snellings, middle man Blake Elsenpeter, and Raul Aguirre, a new player to the team making a lot of noise this offseason. Ty Ellington, Hakeem King, and Ethan Crawford will be the prominent backups. Boyton Cheney and Ford Van Meter lock down the top corner spots, followed by Nate Sikes and Jacobean Brown. Spencer Field is slotted in at free safety, with Dalton Bonner at strong safety. They will be backed up by Jaylon McClendon and Josh Benton.

SPECIAL TEAMS TJ Hartley has big shoes to fill as the Wild- cats’ new kicker and punter. Noah Smith handles long snapping duties. Nathan Wallace, Dalton Bonner, Corey Richardson, and Josh Benton look like the top options in the return game.

ANALYSIS If the second half of 2020 is any indication, the Wildcats are on the rise under Coach Frazier. An unconven- tional offseason showed as they limped out of the gate in 2020, but they flashed their potential as the year wore on. A full year together should have them primed to hit the ground running in 2021. It’s a tough region, but the Cats look likely to make a return trip to the playoffs, and they hope to hang around the DALTON BONNER postseason for a bit this time.
