Championship Credentials Charles Thompson and Jason Gibson were Washington Post All-Metro First Team selections. Gibson finished his high school career with 1,502 points and helped Sidwell Friends win its first DCSAA (District of Columbia State Athletic Association) Class AA championship as a senior. He was the DCSAA tournament Most Valuable Player and Player of the Year. In addition, Gibson was selected to the USA Today ALL-USA District of Columbia Boys Basketball Team. Thompson helped Saint Stephens & Saint Agnes win the Interstate Athletic Conference tournament for the first time since 2007, making the Saints the outright champions in one of the area’s toughest leagues. He was named to the Virginia Interscholastic School Athletic Association (VISAA) First Team and Player of the Year and IAC Player of the Year.

Perfection When It Comes to Graduation Towson has the highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) according to the NCAA’s report released in October 2019. In addition, Towson has a perfect men’s basketball graduation rate under head coach Pat Skerry. The Tigers are 23-for- 23. Coupled with its recent perfect four-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score and public recognition from the NCAA for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport, Skerry and the Tigers are accomplishing plenty on and off the court. In addition to the athletic and academic success, the Tigers also made an impact in the community last season as they ranked first nationally in Division I men’s team sports for their community service activities in the 2017 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.

Tigers in the Community The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018- 19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
