Textbook Section,

NCERT,

New Delhi.

Subject: Non availability of textbooks even one month after beginning of the new session.

Dear Madam/Sir,

I am Rana Roy, a 10th standard student of St. Xavier’s School, New Delhi. I am writing this letter to you to inform you of the unavailability of textbooks in our school. Our school session this year began a month ago in July, but we have not yet received our textbooks. We have been facing immense difficulties due to this. Although our teachers have been printing out relevant chapters from the NCERT website, we do not have access to the questions which have been provided in the practice books. Another problem we have been facing due to the unavailability of textbooks is that those students in our class who are not financially well-off are unable to afford the printing costs. The printed out sheets in black and white also make the diagrams not only uninteresting, but also difficult to decipher. This, being the 10th standard, is a crucial year of our schooling and the unavailability of textbooks will have an adverse impact on our studies and the upcoming exams. I hope that you will take cognisance of this problem and make textbooks available to us at the earliest.

Yours sincerely,

Rana Roy,

St. Xavier’s School

Upon inquiring who it was, the man simply answered, “Someone who wants to know more about you.” Rahul thought it was one of his friends playing a prank, so he decided to play along.

Rahul: “Why don’t you tell me more about yourself first?”

Man: “Just know that I’m someone who knows you, but you don’t know me.”

Rahul: “Alright then, tell me where I go to school?”

Man: “The blazer hanging from the hook on your door says, ‘St. Xavier’s Boys School’, so that would be my guess.

Rahul (alarmed, looks around): “How do you know there’s a blazer hanging from a hook on a door?”

Man: “I can see you. I can also see that you’re watching a movie.”

Rahul: “Where are you?”

Man: “Somewhere you can’t see me. Let me ask you, which is your favourite scary movie?”

Rahul: “Yeah, that’s very funny, Sid. We watched ‘Scream’ just yesterday. It’s a little too early to enact the movie.”

Man (angrily): “I’m not Sid!”

Rahul: “That’s enough! I’m hanging up.”

Man: “What if I told you something about yourself none of your friends know?”

Rahul: “And what is that?”

Man: “You hit the neighbour’s dog when you sneaked out early last morning on your brother’s bike without asking him.”

Rahul: “How do you know this? Where are you?”

Man: “I’ll tell you if you answer my question, “Which is your favourite scary movie?””

Rahul: “Hey! Who are you?”

Man: “You’re not answering my question!”

Just then, the doorbell rang and Rahul ran to open the door. It was his parents. They had returned from his cousin’s wedding. He greeted them hurriedly and went back to the phone.
