Cardinals’ Chirps…  Last game… RF Johan Mieses launched a go-ahead two-run shot in the bottom of the 8th to swing Springfield in front en route to the 9-8 win in a wild series finale against Frisco on Friday. Both sides exchanged three-run homers in the 4th with Frisco RF Destin Hood connecting in the top of the inning and DH Lane Thomas countering in the bottom. The ‘Riders took the lead with a solo shot from SS Michael De Leon in the 5th, before tallying four runs in the 6th. The Cards, though, plated four in the bottom of the 6th with RBI singles from Thomas and Mieses, an RBI double from 3B Evan Mendoza and a run-scoring hit-by-pitch from 2B Ramon Urias, bringing Springfield within one run, 8-7. After a scoreless 7th, Mieses sent the go-ahead blow into the white pines in left-center field in the 8th, lifting Springfield to the eventual 9-8 win.  Gregerson Rehab Assignment… St. Louis Cardinals RHP Luke Gregerson began a Major League Rehab Assignment with a scoreless 8th inning on Friday and is expected to remain with Springfield through Monday. The right-hander leads all Major League hurlers with 635 appearances since 2009, going 35-36 with a 3.10 ERA and 615 strikeouts in 607.1 career innings. Initially drafted by St. Louis in the 28th round in 2006, Gregerson got as high as Springfield, where he was a Texas League All-Star in 2008, in the Cardinals system before being traded to San Diego in 2009. He has spent time in the big leagues with the Padres (2009-13), the A’s (2014) and the Astros (2015-17), winning a World Series with Houston last year.  Latcham debuts… RHP Will Latcham made his Double-A debut with a scoreless 9th inning on Friday, notching his first-career save for Springfield. The 22 year old started the season with High-A Palm Beach, where he went 3-3, 3.38 ERA in 28 games, tallying nine saves. Selected out of Coastal Carolina in the 17th round in 2017, he went 3-1 with a 2.05 ERA in 18 relief appearances with Short-A State College in his pro debut last year.  Mieses mashes his first… OF Johan Mieses’s go-ahead homer last night marked his first long-ball as a Springfield Cardinal and 11th overall this season, as he opened the year hitting .251 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs in 65 games with High-A Palm Beach, earning FSL Midseason All-Star honors. Long touted for his formidable raw power, the 22 year old has slugged 79 career home runs, including 16 Texas League dingers with the Tulsa Drillers in 2017 before being acquired by St. Louis for former Springfield INF Breyvic Valera on April 1, 2018.  Steady Eddy… INF Tommy Edman extended a current five-game hitting streak with a pair of singles on Friday for his team-best 26th multi-hit game this year. On base in an incredible 37 of his last 38 games, including a Springfield Cardinals record-breaking 32-game on-base streak, Edman has hit safely in 34 of those 38 contests, hitting .348 (54x155), with three homers, 13 RBIs, eight doubles and 26 RBIs during that remarkable stretch, increasing his season average from .239 to .289 since May 21.  Run if you dare… OF Lane Thomas has an outfield assist in three of his last six games, tying for 3rd most in the league with eight on the year.
