Market HOLLYWOOD, CAL.—Lew Chudd, president of Imperial Records Co., this past week announced the firm’s entry into the EP package field with the fothcoming release of fourteen sets. Entry of the Imperial firm into the ever growing profitable EP field marks the third local indie to hop on the bandwagon, with Modern and Aladdin having preceded. Featured on the EP sides are such jazz greats as Charlie Ventura, Errol Garner and pianists Barclay Allen and Billy Lie- bert among others. Meanwhile the Imperial plattery threatened to repeat their disdain for the “summer slump” affliction as a host of platters broke through with distributors throughout the nation. Slim Whitman, who recently notched himself a gold record via one million sales of “Indian Love Call” appeared as a likely contender for a second via his latest “Danny Boy.” Imperial has added additional pressing equipment to handle the backlog of sales distribs have rung up. In the rhythm and blues column, Chudd has a brace of platters MEXICAN JOE in Fats Dominoes’ “Please Don’t Leave Jim Reeves Me” and “The Girl I Love”; Fats Mat- hews’ “Dragnet” and the Smiley Lewis O (Abbott 116; 45-116) rendition of “Play Girl.” Fats Dom- inoes’ “Going To The River” also con- tinues to draw heavy sales.
