PTK Foster Bag Drive 3rd Quarter 3/01 - 5/31

Department: PTK Reporter: Dr. Algia Allen The faculty, staff and students of the Terrell campus led by Tyson Spizzirri and Amanda Leyva have organized and collected 25 bags of items to donate to local kids that are placed in Child Protective Services. Tyson and Kristin Spizzirri adopted their son after he was placed in CPS and know first-hand the reality that these children face when they are removed from their home with only the clothes they are wearing and the items they grab to be taken to a new place. These kids literally have nothing and many times the foster families that take in the kids are not given any notice in order to prepare to make these kids feel at home. Twenty-five bags were purchased by the Terrell campuses Phi Theta Kappa and the embroidery was donated by Kim Jones’s Little Love Letters Monogramming & Gifts out of Rowlett. The faculty and staff of the Terrell campus of TVCC along with members of Willow Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Edgewood/Canton where the Spizzirris are members donated clothes, blankets, stuffed animals, books, tooth paste, toothbrushes, and money to help fill these bags. The Athens chapter of Phi Theta Kappa also donated items to the drive. The total donation amount between cash donated and items donated was over $1500. The items donated were dropped off at the CPS office in Canton in order to be used for children in the Van Zandt, Kaufman, Henderson, and Rains county areas. With the need being so great, another drive will be planned during the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
