he CFB Trenton Pond Hockey Classic just gets T bigger and bigger and ever more popular. This year, people may even see a snippet about it on the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, accord- ing to Trenton Scotiabank representative Diane Gaffney. Scotiabank and ScotiaMcLeod have combined efforts this year to become the CFB Trenton Pond Hockey Classic sponsors and, with their connec- tion to the CBC and Hockey Day in Canada, they were able to talk the CBC into sending a camera crew down to film a segment for the annual NHL/ CBC extravaganza. There is actually another NHL connection to this year’s pond hockey event, which will take place in Batawa on Jan. 17 and 18. Canada’s most famous hockey father, Walter Gretzky, will be a guest speaker at the tournament’s closing event, the “Roots of Hockey” dinner being held on the Saturday night at the National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton. That same dinner also fea- tures “Just for Laughs” comedian Dave Hemstad as the emcee for the evening. Taking place at the Batawa Lions Community Rinks in Batawa, this four-on-four pond hockey tournament is hoping to attract 32 teams this year, including the first ever all-female team to partici- pate, according to Heather Candler of the Batawa Development Corporation. The tournament, which originally started out as This year’s third annual CFB Trenton Pond Hockey Classic tournament in Batawa hopes to attract 436 Squadron sports day, according to 436 Sqn Com- mander Lt.-Col. AMBASSADE DE FRANCE AU CANADA L'Attache de défense No 425 Ottawa, November 8, 2013
Dear Sir or Madam, As part of events commemorating the 70th anniversary of the landings in Normandy and Provence, France wishes to honour the veterans who took part in these operations. Some of these veterans will be nominated to or promoted within the National Order of the Legion of Honour, the highest decora- tion that France can bestow. In order to compile the corresponding dossiers, the Embassy will identify the preferred profi les, which is to say veterans who took part in combat or military landing operations, or the liberation of France. Canadian or foreign decorations already held by veterans may represent useful criteria for 8 Wing Commander, Col. David Lowthian and selection.
