Rabodirect PRO12 :PREVIEW 2012/13 RaboDirect PRO12 :PREVIEW 2012/13 Round 13 : 4 & 5 January 2013 ROUNDS 11 & 13 PREVIEWS Despite their loss to Munster at Thomond Park on Saturday, as we enter the New Year, Ulster remain clear at the top of the RaboDirect PRO12 table with a 9 point lead over second placed Scarlets, who they welcome to Ravenhill on Friday night. That is just one of four games on Friday, two in Scotland and one in Wales, as the teams leave behind the festive local derbies and once more take to the road. Edinburgh Rugby welcome Irish opposition in the form of European champions, Leinster, whilst fourth placed Glasgow Warriors face Benetton Treviso at Scotstoun knowing the Italians defeated them on their last trip to the city. The fourth game on Friday sees the second Italian outfit, Zebre, who are still looking for their first win in the tournament take on champions Ospreys at Liberty Stadium. There are two games on Saturday, both in Ireland, for Connacht and Munster. With their round 11 game against Ospreys still outstanding, by the time Newport Gwent Dragons travel to Galway, they could have overtaken their opponents, Connacht, in the table. The round wraps up in Cork on Saturday evening, when Cardiff Blues will be hoping to improve on their record when travelling to play Munster as they have not won in the province since 2007. NOTE: The RaboDirect PRO12 table, top scorers, Play-Off Zone and Specsavers Fairplay League will be updated following the completion of the outstanding Round 11 game between Newport Gwent Dragons and Ospreys. Alternatively updated details can be found on www.rabodirectpro12.com ROUND 11 FIXTURE Monday 31 December NEWPORT GWENT DRAGONS v OSPREYS At Rodney Parade, 4.15pm Live on Referee: Nigel Owens (WRU, 88th competition game) Assistant Referees: Neil Hennessy, Rhys Thomas (both WRU) Citing Commissioner: Jeff Mark (WRU) TMO: Paul Adams (WRU) HEAD TO HEAD - RECENT RaboDirect PRO12 MEETINGS Date Venue N O Newport Gwent Dragons scorers Ospreys scorers Sat 27 Mar 10 Rodney Parade 28 20 Will Harries(T) Jason Tovey(2C/3P) Aled Dan Biggar(C/2P) Andrew Bishop(T) Brew(T) Matthew Watkins(T) James Hook(T/C) Fri 7 May 10 Liberty Stadium 10 42 Jason Tovey(C/P) Wayne Evans(T) Dan Biggar(T/4C/3P) Ryan Jones(T) Penalty Try(T) Nikki Walker(T) Ryan Bevington(T) Sat 30 Oct 10 Liberty Stadium 21 16 Toby Faletau(T) Jason Tovey(C/3P) Dai Flanagan(C/2P) Gareth Owen(T/P) Wayne Evans(T) Fri 15 Apr 11 Rodney Parade 32 28 Jason Tovey(C/2P) Aled Brew(2T) Wayne Dan Biggar(2P) Tommy Bowe(T) James Evans(T) Matt Jones(2C) Ashley Smith(T) Hook(2C/P) Ryan Jones(T) Nikki Walker(T) Fri 6 Jan 12 Rodney Parade 21 20 Lewis Robling(T) Jason Tovey(C/3P) Dan Biggar(P) Matthew Morgan(4P) Martyn Thomas(T) Tommy Bowe(T) Fri 20 Apr 12 Liberty Stadium 12 31 Lewis Robling(4P) Dan Biggar(3C/P) Ryan Jones(T) Shane Williams(T/C) Penalty Try(2T) Page 1 of 7 RaboDirect PRO12 :PREVIEW 2012/13 Round 13 : 4 & 5 January 2013 Newport Gwent Dragons have won just one of their last six RaboDirect PRO12 contests: 14-3 at home to Connacht on 23 November. The Dragons have won their last two matches at Rodney Parade in all competitions. The Men from Gwent have been beaten on the last four occasions they have faced a fellow Welsh region. Ospreys’ only defeat in their last eight PRO12 encounters was 13-23 to Edinburgh at Murrayfield on 23 November. Ospreys have not won away from home in any competition since a trip to Zebre in the RaboDirect PRO12 on 5 October. Ospreys have won their last six fixtures with fellow Welsh regions in all competitions. The last three clashes between the two sides in the PRO12 have all been won by the home side on the day, whilst the only occasion that Ospreys have ever been triumphant at Rodney Parade was with a 27-13 win on 8 May 2007. SCOTLAND v FRANCE at Stade de France, 16.3.2013 (21:00 local) Scott Johnson makes just two changes to his pack for the trip to face France in Paris. 22-year-old Glasgow Warrior Grant Gilchrist is handed a first test cap, replacing the injured Richie Gray in the second row, whilst fit again Alasdair Strokosch resumes on the blindside flank at the expense of Robert Harley. Ten members of the team have now retained their places in the same shirts for all five rounds including all five players behind the half backs. The bench remains unchanged from the round four defeat to Wales. The XV has 414 test caps between them; the bench has a further 154 caps. RaboDirect PRO12 : PREVIEW 2012/13 Round 18: 22ND & 23RD March 2013 ROUND 18 PREVIEWS With just five rounds left to decide which teams will contest the Play-Offs, there is a new leader of the RaboDirect PRO12 with Glasgow Warriors taking over the mantle from Ulster, whilst for the fourth round in succession, Ospreys swapped places with Scarlets in the Play-Off Zone. Three of those teams are in action on Friday night; Ulster traveling to Edinburgh, Ospreys hosting Welsh rivals Newport Gwent Dragons, and Scarlets in Italy to face Zebre. Edinburgh can do their Scottish neighbours, Warriors, a favour if they can defeat Ulster however their record against the Ulstermen is not great. Meanwhile Ospreys and Scarlets must both be looking to come away with maximum points from opponents who are sitting at the wrong end of the table in their bids to reach the Play-Offs. The leaders, Glasgow Warriors, are not in action until Saturday, and are the only one of the potential Play-Off teams to face another side from the top half of the table when the visit Leinster at the RDS. Munster will also be looking for maximum points in the All-Irish clash against Connacht if they are to make a final push for the knockout stages. With just two points separating the top three teams in the table, whilst it is even closer for the final Play Off spot, there is definitely all to play for still as the RaboDirect PRO12 enters its closing stages. ROUND 18 FIXTURES Friday 22 March EDINBURGH RUGBY v ULSTER At Murrayfield, 7.30pm.

RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2012/13 Round Nine: 23rd – 25th November 2012 ROUND NINE PREVIEWS With the completion of their postponed Round 4 game against Zebre, Ulster have now pulled out a six points lead at the top of the RaboDirect PRO12 table. They are in action in Italy again on Friday night when they face Benetton Treviso at Stadio Monigo, and will be looking to extend their unbeaten record in the country as well as maintaining their 100per cent start to this season’s RaboDirect PRO12. Current RaboDirect PRO12 champions, Ospreys, are also in action on Friday night travelling to Murrayfield to play Edinburgh Rugby. Ospreys sit just outside the top four due to poorer points difference than Munster, should results go their way this weekend it could be the first time they have entered the Play-Off zone this season. The match of the day must be the encounter at Scotstoun where third placed Glasgow Warriors must overcome the reigning European champions, Leinster if they are to set a new Warriors record in this tournament of seven successive wins. The final game on Friday night is in Wales when Newport Gwent Dragons host Connacht. Both teams have had a mixed start to their seasons, and a win would be a welcome boost to their campaigns. The round concludes with two games on Sunday, Munster v Scarlets and Zebre v Cardiff Blues. After having narrowly missed out to Ulster last weekend, Zebre are still looking for their first win in the completion, and will be hoping Blues poor form continues for one more week.

In 2017 we continue to see economic improvements in Ireland, North and South. Unemployment is falling, new businesses are being created and a renewed sense of confidence is establishing itself after the ravages of the Great Recession. However, we cannot afford to overlook the considerable challenges Ireland, North and South, could face, not least as a result of Brexit. Despite the progress that has been made, many sectors of society remain untouched by the recovery and many others are still feeling the wounds of such a difficult period. To help strengthen society, the Irish not-for-profit sector plays a critical role.

  • Rabodirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS ROUND 15 FIXTURES
RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 15: 20th – 23rd February 2014 ROUND 15 PREVIEWS With the international weekend kicking off on Friday night, the majority of the RaboDirect PRO12 games take place on Sunday, however Cardiff Blues open round 15 with their game against current champions, Leinster at the Arms Park on Thursday evening and if past form is any guide Cardiff will have their work cut out to claim victory in this match. The sole game on Saturday is also in Wales with Edinburgh Rugby visiting Llanelli to play Scarlets, who missed out last round due to the weather in Belfast. The Scots do not travel well, so Scarlets must be hoping to put their own home record back on track in this fixture. The remaining four games take place on Sunday, with a TV double header in Italy, Benetton Treviso hosting Ulster and Zebre facing another Irish province, Connacht. Connacht’s victory over Edinburgh last time out saw them swap places with Zebre at the foot of the table, which could be reversed if Zebre claim this tie. Ulster on the other hand will be hoping they can make up some ground on the teams above them in the Play-Off zone. At the same time the remaining two Welsh regions will be in action in the principality. Newport Gwent Dragons opponents’ Glasgow Warriors, currently sit in 4th place in the table courtesy of one more win than Ulster, and still have two games in hand over the three teams above them. RaboDirect PRO12 PREVIEW 2013/14 Round 16: 28th February & 1st March 2014 ROUND 16 PREVIEWS Round 16 of the RaboDirect PRO12 is the last of a run of four straight rounds that could help define a team’s season before international rugby once more takes centre stage. The focus will now be on achieving a top four placing, thereby qualifying for the end of season Play-Offs and the chance to be crowned champions. At present 6 teams appear to be contesting the Play-Off places and two of those are in action against each other in the last game of the round on Saturday night, when Glasgow Warriors travel to Dublin to face Leinster. Warriors have already beaten their hosts once this season, a victory could start them off on another sequence of away wins after Dragons ended their record run last time out. Also on Saturday evening table topping Munster travel to 6th placed Scarlets, and the home team must claim the points if they are to have any chance of making a successful late bid for the Play-Off Zone. The third and fourth placed teams are both in action on Friday night, Ulster welcoming Newport Gwent Dragons to Ravenhill whilst Ospreys travel to Edinburgh to play at Boroughmuir’s Meggetland ground. Dragons may have defeated Ulster in Wales, but will find it a much tougher prospect in Belfast as the home side have lost there just once in 12 months. Ospreys are another team not afraid to travel and will hope their ratio of more wins on the road that at home will continue for this trip.
