This was celebrated throughout the Archdiocesan as these photos from Belmont Abbey and St David’s Metropolitan Cathedral show. This is one of the momentous days in any family’s life. I remember my own Masses transition from Dens Road Public School in my home town of Dundee (in Scotland a public school means just that! It is free for everyone not fee payers such as Eton). I found myself entering a bright new word of an academy, Morgan Academy. None of my family had ever gone to an advanced secondary school before. Indeed both my parents left school at 14 years old to enter the world of work. celebrate My mother took me to buy the school uniform including a blazer with the Morgan Academy crest, a Stag’s Head. Unfortunately she also bought me shorts and when I turned up for the first day I found that most new pupils were in long trousers! Most embarrassing! But Morgan Academy taught me the love of sport and I represented the school for pupils six years in rugby and athletics. It also gave me the educational background to go on in later life to university for both my Masters and Doctorate degrees. I wish all the new secondary school pupils in the Archdiocese all the best and pray that the have a great future, all of them! moving from Story and pictures by Dr James Campbell, Editor Catholic People primary to secondary schools

Sparkling Joseph at St Illtyd’s St Illtyd’s Catholic High School produced the musical, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ in July. Audiences at the three shows were entertained with stunning performances from the highly talented, young cast. Colourful costumes, effective staging and carefully choreographed dance sequences combined to give a visually pleasing show. The whole story is told through music and it was due to the quality of the cast’s strong, clear, expressive voices that the story line could be understood, even by those unfamiliar with it. Particular mention needs to be given to Abel Mwenera (year 7), as Joseph, and Sophie Cleverly (year 9), as the Narrator whose fine performances were outstanding.
