oors Open Days is ’s largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment, new and old. This year it celebrates its 30th year Din Scotland. Every September you can explore hundreds of fascinating sites across Scotland for free. Some open up once a year, some just in a lifetime. Doors Open Days is a part of European Heritage Days, which happens across 47 European countries during September every year. In you can visit nine sites, with events taking place across Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2019. Entry to all sites is free. The sites this year offer a range of exciting experiences, such as trail explorations, organ recitals, guided tours, children’s activities and exhibitions. Visit doorsopendays.org.uk for more information and to see where else you can explore for free this September. 1 Fire Station Grahamston Road, Barrhead, G78 1TL Open: Sunday, 10am – 4pm Local community fire station serving Barrhead, and communities. The station has 1 main building comprised of an appliance room, offices, kitchen and gymnasium. It also has a drill tower in the rear yard.

Guided tour and children’s show & tell of appliances.

Barrhead Men’s Shed 2 Units 1 to 4, 9 Robertson Street, Barrhead, G78 1QW Open: Saturday, 10am – 3pm Barrhead Men’s Shed is a place for all people to get out of their house and enjoy company. Activities include chatting with other members, reading books while enjoying a cup of tea/coffee, or taking part in other hobbies like woodwork, model making glass and stone painting.

Guided tours available. Displays of woodwork and other hobby interests members take part in.

3 Cemetery 160 Brenfield Road, Cathcart, G44 3LU Open: Both days, 3pm – 5pm Join Roger Guthrie of the Alexander Thomson Society at the Brenfield Road Entrance for a guided walk around this late Victorian cemetery. Paths are uneven and stout walking shoes are necessary.

Clarkston Community Fire Station 4 Dorian Drive, Clarkston, G76 7NT Open: Saturday, 10am – 4pm Local community fire station serving Clarkston, , and surrounding communities. The station has 1 main building comprised of an appliance room, offices, kitchen and gymnasium. It also has a drill tower in the rear yard. Guided tour of station and facilities available. 5 Greenbank Garden High Flenders Road, Clarkston, G76 8RB Garden open: Both days, 11am – 4pm House open: Sunday, 2pm – 4pm Built for merchant Robert Allason in the 1760s, Greenbank Garden is an impressive celebration of west coast domestic gardening, featuring more than 3,600 named species of plants. Visitors can take a stroll around the garden or relax by the soothing water feature. Guided tour of garden available. Annual autumn bulb fair on in the courtyard. Gardens team on hand to provide expert advice. Lawn games.

Masonic Temple: Lodge Union and Crown 6 No. 307 30 Cochrane St, Barrhead, G78 1RF Open: Both days, 10am – 5pm An excellent example of 1920s red sandstone construction, the Masonic Temple of Lodge Union and Crown No.307 stands not just as an icon of town history, but also as a meeting place for masonic bodies and community groups alike. Open to the public for exploration.

7 Masonic Temple: Lodge Thistle and Crown No. 1167 1 Main Street, Neilston, G78 3NN Open: Both days, 10am – 5pm Lodge Thistle and Crown is one of the oldest buildings in Neilston. The Lodge enjoys excellent premises with a large function room at ground floor and a beautifully laid out and furnished Masonic temple at the first floor. Guided tour of the premises.

Neilston Parish Church 8 Main Street, Neilston, G78 3ET Open: Sunday, 10am – 12:30pm for worship (all welcome); 12:30pm – 5pm for general visits The site and building of what is now Neilston Parish Church has been a local focal point for celebrating key life events (baptisms, marriages and funerals) and weekly Christian worship in the village of Neilston for hundreds of years. Organ recitals, display of church/groups/organisations activities, written guide to history of church. Whitelee Visitor Centre 9 Moor Road, , G76 0QQ Open: Both days, 10am – 5pm Whitelee is the UK’s largest onshore windfarm, located on Eaglesham Moor, 20 minutes from . Its 215 turbines generate up to 539 megawatts of electricity. 130 kilometres of trails to explore. Optional bus tours of the site. Interactive, hands-on exhibition.
