UNIT – D CHAPTER – 2 صلـح SULH-UL-HUDAYBIYAH: THE PEACE TREATY WITH الحديـبيـة Shortly after the Quraysh released Ibn Affan, they sent to the to make a settlement with him. The moment the Prophet saw Suhayl coming, he predicted that the Quraysh wanted to resolve the stand-off peacefully. Suhayl approached the Prophet and talked diplomatically. The two spent time in lengthy negotiations before coming to an agreement. Q.1. What were the main terms of the Treaty of Al-Hudaybiyah? Ans:The main terms of the Treaty of Al-Hudaybiyah were as follows: (1) Prophet and the would withdraw that year but they would be permitted to visit Makkah next year and perform their and stay in Makkah for three days. Ans:Prophet Muhammad signed the treaty on behalf of the Muslims and Suhayl Ibn Amr signed on behalf of the Quraysh. Q.3. What were the things that the Quraysh's representatives objected to while writing the document of the treaty? How did the Prophet resolve the disagreement? Ans: The Quraysh objected to the words, “In the name of , Ar-Rahman Ar- Raheem”, they insisted to write instead, “Bismik-Allahumma”, the Prophet agreed. Again the Quraysh objected to the words, “This is the treaty of peace between Muhammad Rasoolullah, meaning the Messenger of Allah,” then the Muslims refused to consent to the change. The Prophet said, “I swear by Allah that I am His messenger even though you do not believe.” The words were changed to Muhammad Ibn Abdullah. Q.4. Which of the treaty terms caused some problems in the minds of the Sahabah? Ans:The term that the Muslims would reject any person from the Quraysh defecting to Madinah to become a Muslims. But the Quraysh would be free to receive any Muslim wishing to change his religion, caused some problem in the minds of the Sahabah. Ans: The Prophet didn't help Abu Jandal, because according to the terms of treaty, the Muslims would reject any person from the Quraysh defecting to become a Muslim.
