BHEEMUL CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER TRAIN 2 GAIN GROUP t Train 2 Gain, it was a tradition to celebrate womanhood every end of the year, and like the last three years, we were again au ‘rendez-vous’ to celebrate ‘Women of the Year’ en fanfare...but this time, with a difference. For the very first time,‘Men of the Year’ has joined the party. In fact, I have been frequently pestered by male friends, and somehow blamed for not doing enough to recognise their efforts in their particular areas. After serious considerations, the organisation committee finally decided to host ‘Men of the Year’ to encourage the male counterpart in their endeavours as well as recognise and reward their outstanding contributionA to their sectors of specialisation. Initially, it seems to be a daunting challenge as the project management was more bulky, as well as the cost. Also with the general election closing in, the entire population was more focussed towards that national event, and the project was not a priority for many specially the potential sponsors. Despite few obstacles on the way, it was decided to execute ‘Men of the Year’, and today we are very pleased with the outcomes. Scheduled on the 29 November at Pearle Beach Resorts and Spa, the event was graced by Lady Sarojini Jugnauth, the Chief Guest on the occasion. Although it was an event that will live in the memory of many of those present on the day, there were also a few important lessons learned. Firstly, men and women are here to co-exist; so let’s celebrate success and happiness together, putting aside ‘ego’ and ‘superiority complex’ to the other side for a better survival. Also, I have seen individuals trying to tarnish this project with their acidic intention and destructive social media posts, while a few copycats have unsuccessfully attempted to replicate same. Every time an attempt has been made to reduce the integrity of project, we rose to the challenge, re-invent ourselves and execute the project even better. Today, we stood tall, strong, and proud of what we have been able to bring upfront. We may be a small company, but the staffs at Train 2 Gain are the true heroes with big, big hearts and are behind the success of ‘Men of the Year’ and ‘Women of the Year’. Without them, Train 2 Gain is nothing! Without forgetting all those individuals and companies who supported us unconditionally – our proud sponsors, stakeholders, business partners, family members and a few friends. As the festive season is fast approaching, I only wish that ‘2020’ brings us even more happiness, prosperity, success, wealth, better health, and many more reasons to celebrate.     Executive Summary Mauritius is an upper middle-income island nation of 1.2 million people and one of the most competitive, stable, and successful economies in Africa, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of USD 11.9 billion and per capita GDP of over USD 9,000. Mauritius’ small land area of only 2,040 square kilometers understates its importance to the Indian Ocean region as it controls an Exclusive Economic Zone of more than 2 million square kilometers, one of the largest in the world. Emerging from the British colonial period in 1968 with a monoculture economy based on sugar production, Mauritius has since successfully diversified its economy into manufacturing and services, with a vibrant export sector focused on textiles, apparel, and jewelry as well as a growing, modern, and well-regulated offshore financial sector. Recently, the government of Mauritius has focused its attention on opportunities in three areas: serving as a platform for investment into Africa, moving the country towards renewable sources of energy, and developing economic activity related to the country’s vast oceanic resources. Mauritius actively seeks investment and seeks to service investment in the region, having signed more than forty Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements and maintaining a legal and regulatory framework that keeps Mauritius highly-ranked on “ease of doing business” and good governance indices. 1. This album was “Gerry Mulligan & Astor Piazzolla”. But it was through “Song for Strayhorn” (Carnegie Hall concert CTI album) I fell in love with the music of Gerry Mulligan. My impressions were: “How great this man is to be able to compose so nicely!, to improvise so marvellously! and to give us such feelings!” Step by step my interest for the music increased I bought regularly his albums and I became crazy from the Concert Jazz Band LPs. Then I appreciated the pianoless Quartets with Bob Brookmeyer (The Pleyel Concerts, which are easily available in France) and with Chet Baker. Just married with Danielle, I spent some days of our honey moon at Antwerp (Belgium) and I had the chance to see the Gerry Mulligan Orchestra in concert. After the concert my wife said: “During some songs I had lost you, you were with the music of Gerry Mulligan!!!” During these 30 years of travel in the music of Jeru, I bought many bootleg albums. One was very important, because it gave me a new direction in my passion: the discographical part. This was the album “Gerry Mulligan – Vol. 2, Live in Stockholm, May 1957”.

    JAZZ WRITING? I am one of Mr. Turley's "few people" who follow The New Yorker and are jazz lovers, and I find in Whitney Bal- liett's writing some of the sharpest and best jazz criticism in the field. He has not been duped with "funk" in its pseudo-gospel hard-boppish world, or- with the banal playing and writing of some of the "cool school" Californians. He does believe, and rightly so, that a fine jazz performance erases the bound• aries of jazz "movements" or fads. He seems to be able to spot insincerity in any phalanx of jazz musicians. And he has yet to be blinded by the name of a "great"; his recent column on Bil- lie Holiday is the most clear-headed analysis I have seen, free of the fan- magazine hero-worship which seems to have been the order of the day in the trade. It is true that a great singer has passed away, but it does the late Miss Holiday's reputation no good not to ad• LETTERS mit that some of her later efforts were (dare I say it?) not up to her earlier work in quality. But I digress. In Mr. Balliett's case, his ability as a critic is added to his admitted "skill with words" (Turley). He is making a sincere effort to write rather than play jazz; to improvise with words,, rather than notes. A jazz fan, in order to "dig" a given solo, unwittingly knows a little about the equipment: the tune being improvised to, the chord struc• ture, the mechanics of the instrument, etc.
