Nat. Croat., Vol. 30, No. 1, 37–52, 2021, Zagreb. From 2016 to 2020 numerous surveys were undertaken to improve the knowledge of the pyraloid moth fauna of Biokovo Nature Park. On August 27th, 2020 one specimen of Psorosa mediterranella (Amsel, 1954) from the family Pyralidae was collected on a small meadow (985 m a.s.l.) on Mt Biok- ovo. In this paper, the first data about the occurrence of this species in Croatia are presented. The previ- ous mention in the literature for Croatia was considered to be a misidentification of the past and has thus not been included in the checklist of Croatian pyraloid moth species. P. mediterranella was recorded for the first time in Croatia in recent investigations and, after other additions to the checklist have been counted, is the 396th species in the Croatian pyraloid moth fauna. An overview of the overall pyraloid moth fauna of Croatia is given in the updated species list. New synonyms are stated: Leptosia velocissima f. tarda Turati, 1926, syn. n. and Leptosia griseimargo Warren, 1912, syn. n., both synonyms of Metachrostis velox (Hübner, 1813); and Pseudohadena (Eremohadena) roseonitens espugnensis Lajonquiere, 1964, syn. n., a synonym of P. (E.) roseonitens roseonitens (Oberthür, 1887). A new subspecies of Xylena exsoleta (Linneaus, 1758), Xylena exsoleta maltensis ssp. n., is established. The literature on Maltese Noctuoidea is reviewed and erronuousely reported species are indicated. -
A New Helicoverpa Armigera Nucleopolyhedrovirus Isolate from Heliothis Peltigera (Denis & Schiffermuller) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in Turkey

Infection was confirmed by tissue polymerase chain reaction and sequence analysis. Results showed that dead H. peltigera larvae contain Helicoverpa armigera nucleopolyhedrovirus. Thus, the isolate was named as HearNPV-TR. Microscopy studies indicated that occlusion bodies were 0.73 to 1.66 μm in diameter. The nucleocapsids are approximately 184 × 41 nm in size. The genome of HearNPV-TR was digested with KpnI and XhoI enzymes and calculated as 130.5 kb. Phylogenetic analysis showed that HearNPV-TR has close relation with the H. armigera SNPV-1073 China isolate. The Kimura analysis confirmed that the isolate is a variant of H. armigera NPV. Bioassays were performed using six different concentrations (1 × 310 to 1 × 8 10 occlusion bodies (OBs)/mL)on 2nd instar larvae of H. peltigera, H. armigera, Heliothis viriplaca, Heliothis nubigera. LC50 values were calculated to be 9.5 × 103, 1.9 × 104, 8.6 × 104 and 9.2 × 104 OBs/mL within 14 days, respectively. Results showed that it is a promising biocontrol agent against Heliothinae species. -

Its distribution has been studied essentially by the use of light traps. However, its biology and habitat preferences are not sufficiently known and thus its habitats may be damaged by forest management. We suggest the beating method in order to collect larvae as an useful way to record and to survey D. schmidtii. Larvae of the species can be collected by beating branches of its host plants (Quercus and Acer species) in the lower canopy (below 3 m). Optimal survey time would be the sec- ond half of May and the first half of June. Differences between the larvae of D. schmidtii and 16 similar lepidopterid larvae, as well as, Tenthredinidae (Hymenoptera) species living at the same time on the same trees are described and figured in a key to identification. The method described in the paper allows one to identify larvae in the field. Results are discussed. Records of 88 species are given. Donacaula nilotica (ZELLER, 1867), Cucullia absinthii (LINNAEUS, 1761) and Noctuajanthe (BORKHAUSEN, 1792) are recorded for the first time for the Greeke fauna. Zusammenfassung Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Nachweisen von Lepidopteren aus einigen Be- reichen Griechenlands. Es wird über 88 Arten aus verschiedenen Familien berichtet. Die Pyralide Donacaula nilotica (ZELLER, 1867) und die Noctuiden Cucullia absinthii (LINNAEUS, 1761) und Noctuajanthe (BORKHAUSEN, 1792) sind neu für die griechische Fauna. Einleitung Wenn man begeisterter Griechenland-Urlauber und außerdem Lepidopterologe ist, ist es nicht verwunderlich, wenn man auch als Lokalfaunist (Fauna Salzburgs) nicht widerstehen kann, nach Möglichkeit Schmetterlinge aus seinen Urlaubsorten mit nach Hause zu neh- men. Ohne systematischen Fang zu betreiben, erhält man mit etwas Glück doch auch gele- gentlich Tiere, die eventuell für Spezialisten und Faunenbearbeiter interessant oder für ge- wisse geographische Bereiche sogar Neufunde sind. És el resultat de més de 12 anys de treballs que han duit a terme els científics del grup s‘Albufera-IBG i molts d‘altres experts i aficionats que han aportat l’esforç i els coneixe- ments per completar aquesta visió global de la biodiversitat de s‘Albufera de Mallorca. Un cos de coneixements que s’ha anat formant pas a pas, com és característic de tot procés cien- tífic. La Conselleria de Medi Ambient és ben conscient que la conservació del patrimoni natural no es pot fer sense els estudis que ens han de permetre conèixer quins són els recursos sota la nostra responsabilitat i quin valor tenen. De cada vegada el gran públic coneix més quines són les espècies amenaçades i les accions per conservar-les troben ressò en els mitjans de comunicació i en la sensibilitat de la socie- tat en general. Però cal demanar-se: estam fent tot allò que és necessari per garantir la con- servació del patrimoni natural per a les generacions pròximes? Són suficients els coneixe- ments actuals d’aquest patrimoni? Quines espècies o quines poblacions són les més valuo- ses? Aquest llibre ajudarà a respondre algunes d‘aquestes preguntes. És un compromís entre la visió del científic, que sempre desitja aprofundir en l’estudi, i els gestors, que demanen amb urgència unes eines adequades per planificar les accions de conservació i avaluar-les. -

We were staying just a few minutes away at the comfortable Ark Hotel, where we checked in and were soon in our rooms settling down for a night’s sleep before the start of the tour. Day 2 Thursday 30th May Fllake-Sektori Rinia Lagoon, Karavasta, Berat We had a full programme after our breakfast in Tirana before heading for the scenic UNESCO city of Berat, our base for the next couple of days. We first visited the Rinia lagoon close to the capital and we were blessed with some pleasantly warm sunshine. This area is a popular beach location, but being a weekday there was little disturbance. Our first stop before the main lagoon was the unprotected site of a large Bee-eater breeding colony. Over 200 pairs breed here in total and we watched over 40 pairs. We also saw several Red-rumped Swallows here, had good views of a vocal Cuckoo and a Great Reed Warbler sang in the dyke.
