2021 Fia World Rally Championship Rally Croatia
FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE L'AUTOMOBILE 2021 FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP RALLY CROATIA Post-event FIA Press Conference April 25, 2021 Present: Sébastien Ogier (FRA) – Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Elfyn Evans (GBR) – Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Thierry Neuville (BEL) – Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team Jari-Matti Latvala – Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Q: Let’s come to you first Sébastien, and congratulations on winning the first Rally Croatia in the WRC after what was a thrilling final stage, the Wolf Power Stage was pretty amazing. Tell us what it was like to find out you had sealed that win? SO: If you want to know the truth I didn’t believe it was possible any more. But you also know that never give up and always try. First of all I wanted to at least defend my second place and score maximum points in the Power Stage, that was my plan. But I told myself it was not enough because Elfyn was just flying on the first pass through in the morning. But this stage was just crazy, it was so narrow, quite dirty on the second pass, a couple of jumps and it’s definitely a place where differences can happen, more than on a circuit-style stage like the long one in the loop. At the end we just made it for 0.6s, which is just nothing. Of course in the moment I feel for Elfyn because he has done a good job this weekend but I think we didn’t stole either this victory. We have been pretty strong the whole weekend. -

FACTBOOK 2019 WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / PROGRADE PHOTO OF THE YEAR WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / INTRO WRC FACTBOOK 2019 The 2018 WRC season will be remembered as the most exciting and dramatic in a generation. It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years. -

2021 Fia World Rally Championship Croatia Rally
FEDERATION INTERNATIONALE DE L'AUTOMOBILE 2021 FIA WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP CROATIA RALLY Pre-event FIA Press Conference April 22, 2021 Present: Kalle Rovanperä (FIN) – Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT Craig Breen (IRL) – Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team Adrien Fourmaux (FRA) – M-Sport Ford World Rally Team Pierre-Louis Loubet (FRA) – Hyundai 2C Competition Q: Kalle, we’re going to start with you as championship leader heading into the Croatia Rally. Big event for everyone, it’s a brand-new challenge out there. What can you say from what you’ve seen of the roads out there on the recce? KR: The rally is new for everybody and it’s nice to be starting first car on the road on a Tarmac event. But it looks like the conditions are going to be really tricky on the stages. The stages are mainly quite technical and fast all the time. The condition is quite good in some places but then some places when it was raining before the recce there was a lot of mud and dirt on the road so it won’t be so easy. Q: Is it like a gravel rally in parts or is it not that bad? KR: Some parts on Friday look like it’s not going to help us so much to be the first car. There are some stages in parts that are full mud after the recce and those parts will not be a big benefit for us but hopefully in some places it can help us also. Q: Do you feel any different being the championship leader or do you just feel like the normal Kalle Rovanperä? KR: Not really, it is not changing anything for me. -
The Loudon-Clear Guide To… Rally Poland Two Rallies Stand
The Loudon-clear guide to… Rally Poland Two rallies stand head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the World Rally Championship when it comes to speed. The first one? That’s easy, everybody knows about Finland and its 1,000 lakes. The second? Sweden, maybe? No. Australia, that was fairly quick last year. Wrong again. Poland. This week’s race around the Masurian lakes, 250 kilometres (160 miles) north of Warsaw is not for the faint hearted. It’s super-quick: Finland without the jumps. Last year, the average speed in Poland was 121.41kph (75.44mph) – just four kph (2.5mph) ‘slower’ than the stages around Jyväskylä. Speed and spectators are what this Polish spectacle is all about as fans from across central Europe turn out to watch the fastest go faster. These are the rallies where the crews really earn their stripes. With speeds so high, everything has to be 100 per cent perfect – particularly the relationship between driver and co-driver. Poland’s a place which really sorts the men from the boys. Inside the car, it’s eye-wateringly quick in places, and on the outside it’s an absolute demonstration of what modern rallying at its pinnacle is all about: pace, precision and shocking performance. The rally has been around for a very long time – some reporting it to be the second oldest in the world (after Rallye Monte-Carlo) – with local star Tadeusz Heyne guiding a Dodge to an inaugural Rajd Polski victory in 1921. A regular in the FIA European Rally Championship, this is only the fifth time it has been included in the World Rally Championship. -
Pre-Event Press Conference Transcript
PRE-EVENT PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT Rally Liepāja, FIA European Rally Championship Round 2 of 6 Liepāja Olympic Centre, 20h00, 14 August 2020 (streamed live on Facebook) In attendance: Nikolay Gryazin Emil Lindholm, Team MRF Tyres Alexey Lukyanuk, Saintéloc Junior Team Mads Østberg, PH Sport Mārtiņš Sesks Oliver Solberg Q: Your first time in Liepāja this weekend Emil, what are your hopes and targets? EL: Yeah, first time. The roads remind us a bit of our roads back in Finland and it looks good so far. The target is definitely to get through the rally and to see how our MRF tyre performs, to get valuable data, to get info and to develop it further. I think we have a fair chance of getting into the top five but tomorrow will show. Q: You performed well in Rome but how are the tyres coming along because they must have more experience on gravel than they do on Tarmac? EL: This is definitely true and, already, qualifying showed already that the tyre is quite good on gravel. Honestly, the development has been super-fast and I’m so delighted to see this because this is only the second rally I am doing with the gravel tyre and, already, it’s showing this kind of pace. The development is really speeding along and I’m sure there’s much more to come. Q: You’ve been busy, Rome, another rally in Italy on gravel, which you nearly won, what was that like? EL: That was a great rally. I’ve said the roads here are nice but they were as well in Arezzo. -

The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) returns to action next week following an enforced six-month pause with a brand-new event, Rally Estonia, joining a revised 2020 calendar. Hyundai Motorsport will field a three-car entry into the rally - round four of the season - with Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul, Ott Tänak/Martin Järveoja and Craig Breen/Paul Nagle competing in the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. The team is eager to resume its championship defence following mixed fortunes in the opening three rounds earlier in the year. Victory in Monte-Carlo was followed by consecutive podiums in Sweden and Mexico before the global pandemic put a stop to international motorsport. Heading to Estonia, which will represent familiar territory for local crew Tänak and Järveoja, the team holds second place in the manufacturers’ standings on 89 points. Two consecutive second places for the crew, in their first season with Hyundai Motorsport, sees Tänak hold fifth place in the drivers’ classification. Monte-Carlo winner Neuville, meanwhile, lies in third place but the Belgian is ready to mount a fightback on Estonian gravel stages, which he last contested in 2012. -
