Memphis scored on four straight possessions to break open a tight game and hand Tulane its third straight loss before 32,897 at Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis. The Green Wave played the Tigers tough for most of the fi rst half. Memphis jumped on top in the fi rst quarter on a 60-yard punt return TD by Darron White, but a subsequent Tiger drive was halted when Anthony Cannon made the fi rst interception of the season for Tulane. The Wave then drove 85 yards on 13 plays, Lester Ricard and Roydell Williams hooking up on the fi rst of three touchdown passes on the day. This one covered 38 yards, and Nick Beucher’s PAT tied the score at seven. Memphis responded with an 8-play, 85-yard drive culminating with DeAngelo Williams’ 10-yard run. Williams gained 132 of Mem- phis’ 257 rushing yards for the game. The Green Wave narrowed the margin to 14-10 when Nick Beucher hit the fi rst fi eld goal of the season for Tulane, a 46-yarder with 1:47 left in the half. But Memphis responded, driving 79 yards on nine plays to close out the half, quarterback Danny Wimprine con- necting with Tavares Gideon on a 38-yard touchdown pass. Memphis dominated the third quarter, scoring on each of their fi rst three possessions to take an insurmountable 42-10 lead. The Tigers’ scores came on a fi ve-yard rush by Williams, an eight-yard completion from Wimprine to White, and a one-yard run by Robert Douglas. Tulane added a pair of TDs as Ricard, who had his best game as the Green Wave starter, hit Williams on passes of 13 and 19 yards. Williams recorded his 10th 100-yard receiving game with six catches for 114 yards and three scores. Ricard completed 15-of-31 passes for 226 yards while Cannon led the Tulane defense with 12 tackles.
