The core of the scientific potential is the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan - the leading scientific and experimental center in the region. Implementation of the "Uzbek model" of reforms has changed a lot of things, the industry itself has acquired qualitatively new features, increased its production potential and share in GDP New kinds of industry were established from zero level, such as automotive, oil and gas engineering, oil-gas chemistry, railway engineering, production of modem building materials, consumer electronics, pharmaceuticals and other products was arranged. In order to radically increase the efficiency of the ongoing reforms, create conditions for ensuring comprehensive and accelerated development of the state and society, implement priority directions for the modernization of the country and liberalize all spheres of life, the Strategy of Action has been developed and successfully implemented in the Republic of Uzbekistan in five priority areas of development. For example, the "Afrosiab" high-speed train makes regular trips between Tashkent and Samarkand. The journey time between the two cities is 2 hours 10 minutes, and a trip from Tashkent to Bukhara takes 3 hours and 20 minutes. A new high-speed train is connecting the capital and the Fergana Valley. COTTON AND TEXTILES IN UZBEKISTAN About Uzbek cotton Cotton occupies an important place in the economy of Uzbekistan. The annual harvested volume of seed cotton exceeds three million tons, the processing of which provides about one million tons of cotton fiber. In recent years, Uzbekistan is the sixth largest cotton fiber producer and the fifth largest exporter of cotton fiber in the world. About 30% of the produced cotton fiber is exported. More than 50000 farms out of 160000 functioning are engaged in cotton cultivation. Currently, the main acreages are occupied by high-yielding cotton varieties, which are: C-6524, Bukhara-6, Bukhara- 102, Bukhara-8, Sultan, An-Bayaut-2, Namangan-77, Khorezm-127, Omad, Porlok and others. New promising varieties are being developed and increased, including genetically-engineered varieties (GE) Porlok, Ravnak and other. Most varieties of cotton are adapted to machine-picking harvesting. Procurement and processing of seed cotton is carried out at 98 ginneries. The seed stock preparation is carried out at 34 specialized workshops, which annually produce up to 100,000 tons of certified planting seed. In Uzbekistan, there are 21 specialized cotton terminals, including 4 free bonded warehouses, designed for one-time storage of cotton fiber in a volume of about 400,000 tons. An efficient logistics system ensures timely delivery of cotton fiber to customers About textiles of Uzbekistan Nowadays Uzbekistan's light industry has become an important multi-profile and innovatively attractive sector of the economy. It helps to ensure production of economically sound and environmentally safe goods, import substitution, increase of the country's export potential, it also plays a significant role in solving state tasks for creation of stable jobs, and meets the vital interests of many regions. In the system of light industry, there are thousands of enterprises of various forms of ownership. However, a significant part of light industry enterprises of the Republic falls on JSC "Uzbekengilsanoat", which includes 450 large manufacturing enterprises and associations that have a network of branches. The enterprises of the industry specialize on the production of almost the entire "line" of diversified light industry products, from cotton yam to finished products (finished fabrics, clothes). Their activities are aimed at deep processing of the main types of local textile raw materials. Today, there is one more indicator of the attractiveness of the industry - the level of investments that are being developed. Thus, over the past 10 years, the industry attracted more than two billion dollars of foreign investments, more than 250 projects involving foreign investors from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Russia, South Korea, Japan, Turkey, the United States, India and other countries, were conducted. Modem textile enterprises covering a full cycle of textile production, were put into operation. Cooperation with internationally renowned foreign companies and large financial institutions such as Daewoo International (Korea), Indorama Industries Pte.Ltd (Singapore), Alcimel Textiles, Osborn Trading, Rieter (Switzerland), "Toyota Tsusho" (Japan) and others, provided implementation of the most advanced and highly effective technologies in the industry. In recent years, the light industry has ensured the implementation of new production technologies, the use of high-performance modem equipment. More than 90% of the textile products produced in the Republic are made up by joint and foreign enterprises equipped with modem equipment from the world's leading textile machinery companies (Trutzschler, Schlafhorst, Zinser (Germany), Rieter (Switzerland), Toyota, "Murata" (Japan), "Savio", "Orizio", "Marzoli" (Italy), etc.). Combined with effective management, enterprises of the industry are demonstrating high labor productivity, growth of industrial production. Thanks to the introduction of modem high-performance technologies into the industry today, the structure of enterprise exports has a wide range: it includes new kinds of textile products, clothing and knitted goods, as well as many other things. The share of goods with high added value in total exports is about 50%. Products with the trade mark "Made in Uzbekistan" are exported to more than 60 countries around the world, such as Russia and CIS countries, Turkey, Germany, Korea, EU countries, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, , Greece, Israel, the United Kingdom, the United States and countries of Latin America and Africa. In order to further develop the light industry of the Republic, the main parameters of the conceptual approach to the development of the textile and light industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the period until 2020 have been determined. As the main goals for the medium-term perspective until 2020, such areas as the creation of new high-tech industries and deep modernization, the technical re-equipment of existing enterprises, sustainable and balanced growth of processing of local textile raw materials with increasing of the share of products with high added value, are being considered. The target parameters for the period up to 2020 foresee to increase the level of intra-republican processing of cotton fiber to 100% of the total volume of fiber produced in the Republic, to ensure the growth of indices of industrial production more than 3.2 times, to increase the export potential by more than 2.7 times, and to satisfy consumer demand for textile products for both domestic and international commodity markets. In its turn, all these factors will enable to create a new competitive image of light industry, achieve the dominant position of Uzbekistan in the production of textile industry and ensure the integration of light industry enterprises into the world trade space.
