There are also renditions of Robert Johnson’s “Crossroads,” an instrumental take on Albert King’s “Born Under A Bad Sign,” a cover of Muddy Waters’ “Rollin’ And Tumblin’,” and originals that reflect Chaquico’s time spent listening to Cream, Hendrix, ZZ Top, and other acts. Official Craig Chaquico Fan Club Gathering of the Tribes Summer 07 Message from Craig Summer is here, can you believe it?! I hope you’re all having a great time and enjoying some vacation time or that some vacation time awaits you in the near future! As for me, I’ve been working in the studio on some extra tracks to include with the live CD and some covers of a song or two I wrote in the classic rockin Jefferson Starship days now that we have such an amazing singer with Rolf Hartley doing some shows with us now and so I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy, no rest for the weary I always say! Plus, I do admit to procrastinating when my son asks me for some guitar lessons that I trade with him for martial arts lessons now that he's such a 1st place champion in his competitions. It’s been pretty easy for him to talk me out of spending a few hours in the studio during the spring and summer in favor taking him out in the old sports car so he can practice his stick shifting on some really amazing and beautiful roads in southern Oregon. He's actually better at it than I was at I N S I D E T H I S I SSUE his age and he just celebrated his 16th birthday on July 11 and took his drivers test for his license. 1 & 2 Update from Craig 2 & 3 Q & A with Craig & The live CD is coming along nicely and there may be a project coming up with some music for a TV show too, but when the weather is so nice it’s hard to stay in the studio Craig Trivia sometimes. -

Jefferson Starship
2008 BIOGRAPHIC INFORMATION JEFFERSON STARSHIP 2008 Bio Capsules PAUL KANTNER, along with MARTY BALIN founded JEFFERSON AIRPLANE in 1965. THE AIRPLANE were the biggest rock group in America during the 1960s and the first San Francisco band to sign a major record deal, paving the way for other legends like GRATEFUL DEAD & JANIS JOPLIN. They headlined the original WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL in 1969 and like THE BEATLES with whom they are critically compared, lasted a mere 7 years ... though their influence and impact on rock music continues well into the 21st century. In 1974 Mr. KANTNER created JEFFERSON STARSHIP and again with Mr. BALIN, enjoyed chart-topping success. PAUL, MARTY & JEFFERSON AIRPLANE were inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, the same year as PINK FLOYD. In 2005 they celebrated their 40th anniversary, playing 21 countries on their world tour. In 2007 they headlined “The Summer of Love 40th Anniversary Celebration” and performed at The Monterey Pop commemorative on the exact same stage as the historic landmark rock festival of 1967. JEFFERSON STARSHIP, the name created by PAUL for his 1971 solo debut “Blows Against The Empire” recording has endured 37 years as rock music’s premier “political science fiction” themed band. That recording was the first and only to ever be nominated for literary science fiction’s Hugo Award … a stellar achievement. DAVID FREIBERG is co-founder of the legendary Avalon/Carousel/Fillmore era San Francisco band who along with THE DEAD & THE AIRPLANE), often shared the bill. DAVID is an extraordinary singer, producer and multi- instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass, viola and keyboards. -

Official Craig Chaquico Fan Club Fall 07 Gathering of the Tribes MESSAGE FROM CRAIG Happy Fall! It’s that beautiful time of year here in Chaquicoland in Southern OR, the fall colors are ablaze everywhere…reds, yellows, pinks, oranges, purples, maroons, creams and emeralds beneath a sky that is achingly blue as the last of the migrating birds and butterflies make their way south. There is an invigorating crispness in the air with a few early snows capping the Siskiyou’s titanium white on one side and the cascades on the other with the evergreens ever, green, while the wild and scenic Rogue River makes its way among horses and cows, farms and pastures through a lush Rogue valley toward the coast. Gigantic pre-historic looking honey colored maple leafs are everywhere and it’s almost that time of the year where dad goes outside right before Kyle leaves to go to school in the morning and as Kyle passes under the giant maple and past that big ever growing pile of leaves near the gate, dad will be lying down and hiding, buried beneath that big pile of leaves. As Kyle passes with all his 16 year old teenage boy adventure and bravado in saggy jeans and baggy shirt, the leaves will I N S I D E T H I S I SSUE suddenly explode as a creature jumps up out of the formerly dormant pile of leaves yelling, "HEY, HAVE A NICE DAY, BUDDY!!!" 1 & 2 Update from Craig Books will fly among the floating leaves everywhere, perhaps a cell phone will be dropped, and 3 Craig Mail two hearts will surely pound and after the primal shouts there will be much teary-eyed, bent over 4 More Craig & Meet hands on weak knees, heartfelt laughter echoing through the otherwise quiet streets and picket Rolf fences of a small town fall morning! 5 Meet Rolf & Craig This is where I like to think Led Zeppelin meets Andy of Mayberry and Halloween is a perfect Trivia example around the Chaquico household. -

Official Craig Chaquico Fan Club Gathering of the Tribes Fall 2009 In this Issue: Update from CRAIG UPDATE Craig Pages 1 – 3 Chart News Page 4 Fall Greetings Club Members! Meet Tony It has been a truly exciting summer for the band and me as we've been busy touring in support of Page 5 my new CD – Follow the Sun. The feedback from everyone has been so gratifying and I am so happy to know that you are enjoying my latest artistic journey. That means a lot! Les Paul Page 6 The first single from the CD, a cover of the great Kenny G hit, Songbird, is doing tremendously well and has flown up the charts. On August 28 it reached the top five as is still number four on the Pres Update & Smooth Jazz charts as of September 8, and it continues to climb, so keep an eye out for more updates Tour and remember to request the song from your local Smooth Jazz stations nationwide. Let's make this Page 7 one go all the way to number one! It’s interesting because when I started to work on the CD, I asked Lil what Kenny G song she thought I should cover, without hesitation, she said, “Songbird.” Does this mean I owe the success of the song to her? Hmmm, maybe so, LOL, just as long as she doesn't start asking for royalties! It was great fun to cover a song that was originally done on the saxophone and converting that same energy with different facets of my own when bringing it to the guitar was an interesting journey. -
LARRY CRAGG an Oral History Interview Conducted by Debra
Mill Valley Oral History Program A collaboration between the Mill Valley Historical Society and the Mill Valley Public Library LARRY CRAGG An Oral History Interview Conducted by Debra Schwartz in 2015 © 2015 by the Mill Valley Public Library TITLE: Oral History of Larry Cragg INTERVIEWER: Debra Schwartz DESCRIPTION: Transcript, 15 pages INTERVIEW DATE: September 25th, 2015 In this oral history, guitar repairman and multi-instrumentalist Larry Cragg recounts a life engaged in two of the most important cultural scenes that took shape in Mill Valley during the 1970s: music and mountain biking. Born in Chicago in 1948, Larry first came out to California in 1967 for the Monterey Pop Festival. He recalls experiencing a powerful sense of belonging on that visit, prompting him to make the permanent move west later that same year. Initially landing in Oakland, Larry soon moved across the bay to Mill Valley, where he unexpectedly discovered his vocation when he started working at the newly opened Prune Music, a landmark in the musical history of Marin County. Larry recounts his earliest paid work as a guitar repairmen assembling Charlie Deal’s signature toilet-seat guitars; and he vividly evokes the ambience of Prune Music throughout the 1970s with its “infamous back room” and impromptu jam sessions — a space of encounter and creative ferment. Larry tells stories from his 37-year tenure as Neil Young’s guitar tech and provides an insider’s perspective on the origin and early development of mountain biking, or “klunking,” as he and his friends originally referred to it. Throughout this oral history, Larry effectively conveys what it was like to participate in the counterculture of Mill Valley and Marin County from the 1970s on.
