The Grammar in Putney, Vermont Seeking Candidates for Business Manager

Job Description: The Grammar School seeks a Business Manager to start no later than July 1, 2021. The Business Manager, a key administrator reporting to the Head of School, is responsible for the financial, human resources, facilities, and operational functions of the school. The Business Manager provides primary support to the Board of Trustees Finance (budgeting, audit, investment) and Buildings & Grounds Committees. The position requires interaction and collaboration with the Head of School and administrative team, faculty, staff, and Board of Trustees. The Business Manager must have a record of successful experience in project development and management, and a proven ability to communicate with all stakeholders.

About The Grammar School: The Grammar School (www.thegrammarschool.org), was founded in 1960 by a small group of families with the understanding that a child’s elementary school years provide the foundation for all future learning. It is the oldest of elementary in southern Vermont, and has been a forerunner in programming in the arts, service learning, and nature-based education. The school, which enrolls approximately 105 children from through 8th grade, attracts families from Vermont and New Hampshire.

Essential Functions: ● Oversee the financial sustainability of the school by analyzing the short-and-long-term financial position and making recommendations regarding the ongoing organization, integration, and effectiveness of financial and administrative functions ● Manage and coordinate the budgeting process and long-range, strategic financial plans in alignment with the School’s mission and core values as directed by the Head of School and the Finance Committee ● Supervise business operations and related staff ● Serve as a key member of the administrative team ● Ensure that human resources policies and practices are clearly articulated, consistently applied, and conform to legal requirements. ● Other duties as assigned by the Head of School

Qualifying Characteristics: ● Advanced degree or certification preferred (MBA or CPA preferred) ● Five years of relevant management experience; experience in independent education or non-profit management a strong plus ● Demonstrated knowledge of educational budget management ● Excellent oral and written communication skills ● Ability to think analytically and strategically; outstanding problem solving skills ● Ability to work both independently and collaboratively ● Exemplary organizational skills; ability to establish and manage multiple priorities ● Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy ● Patience and sense of humor ● Enjoy working in an environment with children
