The Airport Noise Management Report provides the 1st Quarter 2018 summary of St. Louis Lambert International Airport’s operations and noise complaints. The data in this report is from Harris, Inc. and not from FAA Air Traffic. This report is illustrative of trends and distribution and should not be construed as official traffic counts.

1 ST Q UARTER Y EAR 2018 N O I S E C O M P L A I N T S

There were 6 noise complaints received in the 1st Quarter 2018 as compared to the 22 noise complaints in the 1st Quarter of 2017. The six complaints were from three communities. Three complaints were about loud aircraft noise early in the morning. One complainant registered two complaints about the same aircraft flying over his location multiple times in a short span. Upon investigation, it was determined that the aircraft were actually several Southwest and departing STL within a short span of time. One complainant called about excessive noise from F18 aircraft. The aircraft were returning from deployment and stopping in STL. There were two complaints was about night time operations (10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.) and four complaints were about day time operations ( 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.). Landings and take-offs (operations) during the day time hours accounted for 86.8% of the operations while 13.2% of the operations occurred during the night time period. There were 45,677 operations recorded in the 1st Quarter of 2018 as compared to 45,809 operations in the 1st Quarter of 2017, a decrease of –0.3%. The decrease was the result of several major east coast snow- storms which impacted the and closed airports along the east coast. The most utilized runway for known arrivals was Runway 30R (11,025) with 24.3% all operations. The most utilized runway for known de- partures was Runway 30L (9,344) with 20.5% of all operations. There were 45,368 (99.3%) operations in which the runway was identified and 309 operations (0.7%) where the runways were not identified.

The top twenty one airlines accounted for 91.9% of all operations. The top three airlines were Southwest Air- lines with 38.9% of all operations, followed by Cape Air (7.6%), and American (7.6%). Eleven regional com- mercial passenger jet airlines that serve St. Louis Lambert International Airport were in the top twenty one airlines and accounted for 21.1% of the 1st Quarter operations. Breaking into the top 21 airlines were two cargo airlines- and UPS. There were 69 Part 121 and Part 135 airlines that utilized St. Louis Lambert International Airport during this period. Part 121 airlines are commercial scheduled airlines and Part 135 airlines are charter and air taxi.

In the 1st Quarter of 2018, commercial passenger narrow body operations decreased -0.5% from the same period in 2017. Commercial passenger regional jets increased +13.6% from the same period in 2017. Com- mercial passenger propeller operations decreased –23.9%. Cargo wide body operations increased +33.7%. General aviation business jets were up +0.8% from 2017. Military operations are filtered so most operations are not reported. Overall, operations from the 1st Quarter 2018 were down –0.3%. from the 1st Quarter in 2017 due to significant weather events.

Commercial Passenger, Commercial Cargo, General Aviation, Military, and Unknown Operations are the five categories of operations. The Unknown Operations category include aircraft that were not identified by either the airline or aircraft equipment type, or both. The largest number of operations was Commercial Passen- gers with 90.2% . General Aviation was at 7.0%, Commercial Cargo had 1.9%, and the Unknown category represented 0.5% of the total operations. Reported Military operations were at 0.4%, however, military oper- ations are filtered and not all military operations are reported in the data.

Shown below are top twenty aircraft with the most operations for 1st Quarter 2018. The Boeing 737-700 had the most operations at 12,679 (27.8%), followed by the Boeing 737-800 with 6,087 operations (13.3%) and the Cessna 402 Utiliner with 3,498 operations (7.7%). Five of the top ten aircraft at the Airport are operated by regional carriers. There were 140 different types of aircraft that landed at St. Louis Lambert International Airport during this period according to Harris data*.

*The Harris Airport and Noise Management System (ANOMS) collects FAA air traffic data from the National Airspace System (NAS) and permanent noise monitoring data and correlates flight tracks, noise monitoring events and noise complaints.. There were 45,677 operations recorded in the 1st Quarter of 2018 compared to 45,809 operations in the 1st Quarter of 2017, a decrease of -0.3%. Operations were affected by significant weather conditions in the east and in Chicago. Also, FAA ATCT changed runway operations in the Fall of 2017 from arriving RWY 12R and departing RWY 12L to arriving RWY 12L and departing RWY 12R. This change is the result of recommenda- tions from FAA Runway Safety Committee and the Airlines. The chart below shows the total percentages of use for known runways for this period. The most utilized runway for departures was Runway 30L (20.5%). The most utilized runway for arrivals was Runway 30R (24.1%). The crosswind runway 6-24 was the least used runway for this period. The Distribution of Traffic (Eastbound vs. Westbound ) for the 1st Quarter 2018 was 43.9% eastbound and 56.1% westbound operations.
