POSITION PURPOSE: The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the effective leadership, development, and management of MBI to ensure it achieves its strategic and operational goals.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

The duties and responsibilities of the General Manager shall include, but may not be limited to the following categories -

1. General Operations

The General Manager shall adopt the following procedures to ensure effective operations:

• Create and develop policies and procedures manuals for the benefit of MBI for all duties expressly stated of implied.

• Ensure that all purchases are made with the full knowledge and permission of the MBI Executive Committee.

• Keep up to date all necessary licences, permits, volunteer cards etc.

• Liaise with the MBI Executive Committee to assist with any matter relating to the operation and administration of MBI.

• Manage all merchandise, including overseeing sales and stocktaking.

• Produce a written report to the MBI Executive Committee each month. This report should detail the past months activities and projected activities for the coming month.

• Work with MBI staff to create a timetable that detail all court bookings as allocated.

• Work with MBI staff to ensure a working tracking system for all keys.

• Work with MBI staff to maintain a yearly calendar marking key dates and manage the calendars / notice boards within the facility.

• Work with MBI staff to update the MBI website as appropriate making sure information is accurate.

• Complete any community lease documents for fundraising raffles at local shopping centres

2. Promotions & Marketing

The General Manager shall assist with the marketing and promotion of the sport of Basketball and the Multi-Sports Stadium. This responsibility will involve work in the following areas:

• Advertising and promotion of important events, games, and functions to ensure maximum media coverage and thereby public participation.

• Ensuring that all MBI events such as monthly & annual general meetings are advertised and notified in accordance with requirements.

3. Event Management & Facility Hire

• Actively attempt to hire out the facility on a commercially viable basis as much as possible to increase business development; ensuring a priority is placed on the use of the facility for basketball-based activities and events.

• Attend to any other requirements of events held at MBI. These may include catering, additional staffing, financial requirements, and equipment.

• Coordinate the opening and closing of the venue to maximise the use of the venue on a profitable basis.

• Maintain a close working relationship with all affiliated bodies and stakeholders.

4. Facility Maintenance

• Ensure all Workplace Health & Safety matters are adhered to and all emergency procedures maintained.

• Identify and problem-solve any hazards or potential hazards.

• Make sure the venue is maintained and the appearance of the facility is appropriate.

• Supervise the MBI cleaning staff or contract cleaner.

5. Crater Café & Bar

• Liaise with canteen convenor on all aspects relating to the effective operation of the Crater Café. (Canteen)

• Liaise with NBL1 North Committee for all aspects relating to the effective operation of the MBI Bar, including stock control and ordering.

6. NBL1 North Program (NBL1)

• Assist the NBL1 North Committee with any operational requirements that will contribute to the effective functioning of the NBL1 program.

• Attend all NBL1 North home games as directed (if possible) and assist with game day operations.

• Assist NBL1 North Committee with recruiting volunteers to assist with the NBL1 program.

7. Competitions & Development

• Assist and guide, where necessary, the Competitions and Participation Co-ordinator to manage all junior & senior basketball competitions, including the annual Australia Day Carnival and act as the key point of contact for these competitions.

• Liaise with all MBI affiliated clubs and assist with the effective functioning of those clubs.

8. MBI Staff and Basketball Queensland (BQ)

• Assist, guide and provide leadership to all MBI staff members where necessary in all facets of MBI.

• Liaise with BQ on all matters pertinent to MBI, and complete any necessary forms or paperwork required.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

Education/ Essential Desirable Qualifications ➢ Relevant qualification in management, or relevant ➢ Management Qualification or practical experience with demonstrational equivalent capabilities, reflecting relevant and recent ➢ Extensive, broad basketball specialised experience knowledge and qualifications Experience Essential Desirable ➢ 5+ years’ experience in a senior management role ➢ Broad understanding of HR, IT within a Basketball Organisation and financial procedures ➢ Commercial approach to service delivery is essential including a track record of setting and meeting financial/ productivity targets ➢ Experience managing a team ➢ Business Development experience in a sporting association context Competencies Essential Desirable ➢ Excellent verbal and written communication skills ➢ Good negotiation and ➢ Good analytical/critical thinking influencing skills ➢ Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, including Government representatives and elected members ➢ Excellent customer service skills
