  • Ian Woosnam Returning to Defend Title Tournament Field Includes Past Champions & Hall of Famers
Ian Woosnam Returning to Defend Title Tournament Field Includes Past Champions & Hall of Famers THE WOODLANDS, TX – April 12, 2016 —The Insperity Invitational presented by UnitedHealthcare will be celebrating its 13th anniversary May 2-8 as the 2015 champion Ian Woosnam returns to compete against one of the strongest fields on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule. Woosnam has the opportunity to join Bernhard Langer as the only player in tournament history to successfully defend his title. Langer, who accomplished the feat by winning the 2007 and 2008 Insperity Invitational, will not be competing this year so he can attend his daughter’s college graduation. Joining Woosnam will be seven other past winners of Houston’s PGA TOUR Champions event—Larry Nelson (2004), Mark McNulty (2005), Jay Haas (2006), John Cook (2009), Brad Faxon (2011), Fred Funk (2012) and Esteban Toledo (2013). In addition, five World Golf Hall-of-Fame members are currently in the field: Tom Kite, Mark O’Meara, Curtis Strange, Colin Montgomerie and Sandy Lyle. “The field for this year’s tournament will once again be a fantastic combination of golf’s legends, new PGA TOUR Champions members, Hall of Fame members and the best players in the world age 50 and over,” said Bryan Naugle, Executive Director of the Insperity Invitational. “We are excited with all aspects of the tournament both on and off the golf course. The fans in the Houston area are in for a real treat as this annual tradition continues.” There are eight categories of eligibility in the invitational format, making this event unique on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule.

  • The ISOPAR Method: a Performance Analysis Project on the Shotlink™Database
T U M W P e ISOPAR Method Michael Stöckl, Peter Lamb & Martin Lames Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences Connollystrasse 32 80809 Munich Germany [email protected] [email protected] June 27, 2011 Abstract e ISOPAR method is a method for characterizing the difficulty of golf holes and allows the per- formance of shots to be analyzed. e method is based on the ball locations provided by ShotLink™and the subsequent number of shots required to hole out from each respective location. ISOPAR values are calculated which represent the number of shots the field would require to hole out. ese ISOPAR values can, a) be visualized on an ISOPAR map and, b) lead to a new performance indicator called Shot ality, which is the difference between the ISOPAR values of the starting position and finishing position, respectively. e Shot ality score can also be used to determine how many shots were saved per shot, or per type of shot, with respect to the performance of the field. 1 Introduction In performance analysis, characteristics of a process which describe how an outcome was achieved are used to assess the performance itself (Hughes & Bartle, 2002) and are referred to as performance indica- tors. Classical performance analysis techniques in golf have focused on classes of golf shots (James, 2007), such as driving distance, approach shot accuracy and puing average (James & Rees, 2008). Measures like greens in regulation, average pus per green and driving distance are intended to describe players’ abilities to perform certain types of shots, yet these abilities are not actually assessed.

Travelers Championship Title Sponsorship Extended Through 2024 Travelers signs 10-year title agreement; extends marketing sponsorship with PGA TOUR HARTFORD, Conn. (February 27, 2014) – The PGA TOUR, the Greater Hartford Community Foundation and Travelers (NYSE: TRV) announced today a 10-year title sponsorship extension of the Travelers Championship. Travelers became the title sponsor of its hometown tournament in 2007. The announcement was made by Travelers Chairman and CEO Jay Fishman, Travelers Executive Vice President and CAO Andy Bessette, PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem, and Tournament Director Nathan Grube, during a morning press conference at the Connecticut Convention Center in downtown Hartford. In addition to the title sponsorship, the PGA TOUR and Travelers have extended their official marketing relationship. Travelers will continue as the “Official Property Casualty Insurance Provider of the PGA TOUR, Web.com and Champions Tour” through 2018. “The Travelers Championship is an important part of the sports history in Connecticut and has presented us a tremendous opportunity to support the community and charities throughout the region,” Fishman said. “Our sponsorship of the Travelers Championship has been a great investment for the community and our business. We are also very pleased to have the opportunity to promote both our commercial and personal property casualty insurance by extending our marketing relationship with the PGA TOUR.” “As a longstanding pillar of the Greater Hartford community, Travelers took the significant step in 2007 to assure this tournament’s future and the continuation of its significant charitable and economic impact,” Finchem said. “Since that time, the tournament has continued to prosper and remain a tremendous asset to the entire region, thanks to the outstanding partnership between the host organization and Travelers.
