From: Race Results Weekly <[email protected]> Subject: RRW: Rupp Upset, Huddle Defends At USA Championships 10,000m Date: June 23, 2017 at 7:40:45 AM PDT To: [email protected] RUPP UPSET, HUDDLE DEFENDS AT USA CHAMPIONSHIPS 10,000M By David Monti, @d9monti (c) 2017 Race Results Weekly, all rights reserved SACRAMENTO, Calif. (22-Jun) -- Galen Rupp's streak of eight consecutive USA 10,000m titles came to an end here tonight at Hornet Stadium when the two-time Olympic medalist faded in the final lap of choppy and slow race which was won by Oregon Track Club Elite's Hassan Mead in 29:01.44. Rupp, who runs for the Nike Oregon Project, finished fifth. On the women's side, Saucony's Molly Huddle extended her winning streak at these championships to three, comfortably winning the 25-lap race in a solid 31:19.86, the second- fastest by an American this year. MEN'S RACE BECAME CAT AND MOUSE AFFAIR While the women's contest was a traditional battle of endurance won off of a steady and strong pace, the men's race early on became a game of cat and mouse. Feeling no pressure to run a fast time, the men's pack jogged through the first 800 meters in 2:29, only slightly faster than the women (2:32). The group of 24 athletes was tightly bunched, with veteran Ben Bruce of Hoka Northern Arizona Elite at the front. With 19 laps to go, 2015 national road running champion Sam Chelanga became impatient. Coming down the homestretch, he shot to the lead and threw in a 64.7-second lap, followed by another at 65.1.

  • 100 Marathon Club NA Newsletter
100 marathon club north America Newsletter #30 – May 30, 2013 100 MARATHON CLUB REUNION # 4 There were 48 club members who registered for the 13 th annual Yakima River Canyon Marathon (YRCM) in Central Washington State, and most of them attended the reunion meeting on Friday, April 5, 2013. Everyone was introduced and then received a YRCM mug, pin and name tag. Lois Berkowitz (Riverview, MI) let us know that she will be writing an article for a fall issue of Marathon and Beyond magazine and mentioned that she would be interviewing some club members during the weekend about input for this article. Fenny Roberts (Salem, OR) told about her upcoming trip to Germany where she would be representing our club at member Christian Hottas’ 2,000 th marathon at the May 5 th Hannover Marathon. Club members Roger Biggs and Gina Little from Stevenage and London would be representatives of the 100 Marathon Club United Kingdom. Karla & Ray Jenson from Yakima’s Engravings Unlimited were introduced and presented with a hand- crocheted afghan in appreciation of their support of the YRCM and the 100 Marathon Club. Ray is the person who has made so many pins and personalized medallions for us….quite often on short notice for a recipient’s momentous marathon. Eugene DeFronzo (Chesire, CT) was the recipient of one of these medallions for completing his 500 th marathon on June 9, 2012, at the Hatfield McCoy Marathon in South Williamson, Kentucky. The major health challenges I’ve had in the past few years have left me with much less energy, but it’s our involvement with the 100 Marathon Club and the YRCM that keep Bob and me with lots of good goals.
