Issue 2 - Term 1 - Week 5 Friday, 27 February 2015 Mathematics Pathways There are three end points or possible pathways in Stage Five (Years 9 & 10) - 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3. Students are guided as to which pathway to follow, according to their level of achievement at the end of Year 8.

Stage 5.1 is designed to allow students more time to develop and consolidate the Mathematic knowledge, skills and concepts in the Stage 4 (Year 7 & 8) course. At this level, a student will be able to achieve a maximum grade of D for their Record Of School Achievement (ROSA). Most students at this level will continue on to study General Mathematics 1 in Year 11 and 12. General Mathematics 1 does not contribute to an ATAR.

Stage 5.2 content builds on and includes the content of Stage 5.1. For students intending on studying the Stage Six (6) General Mathematics Course, it is recommended that they experience some of the 5.2 content. At this level, a student will be able to achieve a maximum grade of B for their ROSA.

Stage 5.3 content includes the content of the 5.1 and 5.2 pathways. For students intending on studying the Stage Six (6) Mathematics course, it is recommended that they experience some of the Stage 5.3 content. At this level, a student will be able to achieve a maximum grade of A for their ROSA.

The content of Stage 5.1 is common to all three pathways. There is some flexibility for students to move between courses where appropriate. The following diagram represents the pathways of learning in mathematics.
