    2016 SOFTBALL REVIEW The Gators miniscule .156 batting average against (412.1 Record: 56-7 Overall, 20-4 SEC Team Highlights IP) was the top b/avg. for a single season in UF history Won the program’s sixth SEC Championship by Florida’s .984 fielding percentage in 2016 is the best mark going 20-4 in league play NCAA Finish: T-9th in school history, eclipsing the .981 mark set in 2015 Picked up the No. 1 National Seed in the 2016 The Gators committed just 27 errors (UF record), which is NCAA Tournament, UF’s eighth-straight top-five six fewer than any previous squad SEC Finish: 1st national seed Delanie Gourley (19-4, 224 K), Kelly Barnhill (15-1, 167 K) Received an NCAA Tournament bid for the 17th time and Aleshia Ocasio (22-2, 147 K) are the first trio in UF SEC Tournament Finish: T-3rd in school history and hosted NCAA Regionals at history to win at least 15 games each and record 125+ KSP Stadium for the 11th straight season, including strikeouts in a single season each year under Tim Walton All-Americans: 4 – Delanie Gourley, Aleshia Ocasio (0.77) and Gourley (0.80) ended the season with Ocasio (first team); Kayli Kvistad (second team); Finished the year with a 56-7 overall record but the No. 2 and No. 3 ERAs in the country and Barnhill was Amanda Lorenz (third team) opened its season with a 33-1 mark, which was the 11th with a 1.36 earned run average best start to a season in school history Historically, UF joined its own 2009 squad and South Recorded Florida’s eighth 50-win season.

    TRAVELING TOWARD SUCCESS - Florida Softball Time Line June 13, 1995 The University of Florida Athletic Association Board of Directors, acting on a recommendation from President Dr. John Lombardi, approved the addition of women's softball to Florida's intercollegiate athletic program. September 4, 1995 Larry Ray, top assistant at perennial national power Arizona the past 10 seasons, was the University of Florida's selection as head coach of the inaugural Gator softball team, Athletic Director Jeremy Foley announced. November 8, 1995 Lora Pinkerton signed a national letter-of-intent to attend the University of Florida, becoming the first signee for the Gators. February 1, 1996 Ground was broken on the construction of the new softball facility, located at the corner of Hull and Museum Roads. September 30, 1996 The Gators held their first day of fall practice on the field at the new stadium. November 2, 1996 Florida hosted the Gator Fall Softball Tournament, where they defeat Florida Community College at Jacksonville, 4-0, in its first-ever competition, held at the Southwest Recreation Center Fields on the UF campus. January 26, 1997 The Gators had their first practice of the spring season at the UAA Softball Complex. February 8, 1997 Florida played its inaugural doubleheader, defeating Stetson in both games. The first pitch was thrown by UF’s Chelsey Sakizzie to Stetson’s Bryttnee Roberts at 4:01:13 p.m. ET. Roberts fouled off the pitch and Sakizzie went on to strike out the side.
