Johann Sebastian Bach ABOUT ANITA (BARCELLONA) NEAL Andante (1685-1750) Largo e dolce Anita (Barcellona) Neal discovered her love for at age 5 under the tutelage Presto of Miss Gracelyn (who performed with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New (performed on flauto traverso and harpsichord) York). After moving to California, Anita studied ballet under the direction of Lila Zali (prima ballerina for Russes) and performed in the 1970s Orange Dawn...... Ian Clarke with Ballet Pacifica in Laguna Beach. Since then, Anita has continued to take (b. 1964) ballet classes. She taught ballet, baton twirling, choir, and drama at Calvary (performed on glissando flute and piano) Christian School in Vista. For 10 years she choreographed, costumed, directed and wrote children’s musicals and skits. Anita has been and continues to be a part of worship bands at church, singing and playing keyboard for the past 27 years. She returned to her first profession 15 years ago, and currently works as The Emperor and the Bird of Paradise...... 2 5 ABOUT THE FLUTES ABOUT WENDY CALDWELL The flauto traverso: Martin Wenner, 2011 after Carlo Palanco, mid-/late 18th century; glissando Wendy Caldwell, a native of Canada, graduated with her Bachelor in Music in headjoint by Robert Dick; Muramatsu flute; Native Piano Performance from Acadia University in Nova Scotia, receiving the Birks American mid G and bass A flutes by Brent Haines Medal in Music as the top graduate. She went on to study at the University of of woodsounds.com. Toronto where she obtained her Artist Diploma and performed on tour, as a Cuculi—The Peruvian Dove soloist, with the University Symphony. She has performed as both a soloist and accompanist on Canadian radio and television. Ms. Caldwell has coached and taught at Acadia University, University of Illinois at Chicago, California State ABOUT JOHN BARCELLONA University at Long Beach, California Institute of Technology, and Pasadena City College. A very busy freelance accompanist in the Los Angeles area, she performs John Barcellona is the Director of Woodwind Studies and Professor of Flute regularly in recital with both students and young professionals, and has also at CSULB, teaches doctoral students at Claremont Graduate University and is collaborated with esteemed artists such as Carol Wincenc and Robert Langevin. flutist with the internationally acclaimed Westwood Wind Quintet (recordings on Columbia, Crystal and WIM). Michael Barcellona is the younger brother of John Barcellona and Anita An active freelance musician in the Southern California area, he has played (Barcellona) Neal. Inspired and encouraged by his brother, he began playing Principal Flute with the Pacific Symphony, , the Royal Danish drums and guitar at age 10. He first performed in his brother’s blue grass band at Ballet, the Royal Swedish Ballet, the Joffre and the . Studio age 10 as the guitarist and lead vocalist.
