~tate of \[:ennessee SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 663 By Finney, Haile A RESOLUTION to honor the memory of Norman Holland of Hendersonville. WHEREAS, the members of this General Assembly were greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Norman Holland; and WHEREAS, Norman Holland was an exemplary Tennessean and consummate professional who worked assiduously to improve the quality of life for his fellow citizens in numerous capacities; and WHEREAS, born on August 11, 1959, in Geneva County, Alabama, Norman Holland was the son of James Edward and Evelyn Mae Nielson Holland, Sr.; he was a graduate of Geneva High School and started his working career early in life at WGEA radio station; and WHEREAS, Norman Holland began his career in the music industry with a job in radio promotions at Calvary Records before joining the Benson Company in 1980, where he played a major role in the careers of many legendary artists, including the Cathedral Quartet, the Speer Family, the Kingsmen Quartet, J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet, Gold City, Jeff and Sheri Easter, and Greater Vision; and WHEREAS, as the Artist and Repertoire (A&R) director at Chapel Records, now Spring Hill, Mr. Holland worked on the Gaither Homecomfng series and helped launch the careers of Brian Free and Assurance and the Martins; and WHEREAS, for the past sixteen years, Mr. Holland served as the Vice President of A&R at Daywind Records, which he built into one of the top labels for the Southern Gospel genre with artists such as Greater Vision, the Perrys, Legacy Five, the Booth Brothers, Brian Free and Assurance, the Nelons, Karen Peck and New River, the Mark Trammell Quartet, Mark Lowry, Sisters, and Barbara Fairchild; and WHEREAS, Norman Holland was recognized for his contribution to Southern Gospel when he received a lifetime achievement award from the Southern Gospel Music Guild in 2012; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holland will be sadly mourned but fondly remembered by his sister, Edith (Jesse 0.) Brown; his brother, Paul (Olean) Holland; five nephews, Jesse D. Brown, Joseph (Liz) Brown, Jeffery (Cecilia) Holland, Jonathan Brown, and Joel Brown; seven great-nieces and nephews, Zachary Brown, Lucas Brown, Luke Holland, Landon Holland, Hannah Lynn Holland, Sarah Elizabeth Holland, and Kinsley; and his Southern Gospel music family and other extended family and friends; and WHEREAS, Norman Holland leaves behind an indelible legacy of integrity and probity, compassion and loyalty, and diligence and dedication in all his chosen endeavors; and WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should pause to remember the bountiful life of this exceptional Tennessean and human being; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, that we honor the memory of Norman Holland, reflecting fondly upon his impeccable character and his stalwart commitment to living the examined life with courage and conviction. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we express our sympathy and offer our condolences to the family of Mr. Holland. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an appropriate copy of this resolution be prepared for presentation with this final clause omitted from such copy.
