WHERE ARE WE? JOIN THE OAKLAND MAGIC CIRCLE---OR RENEW OMC has been around since 1925, the oldest continuously running independent magic club west of the Mississippi. Dozens of members have gone on to fame and fortune in the magic world. When we can return to in-person meetings it will be at Bjornson Hall with a stage, curtains, lighting and our excellent new sound system. The expanding library of books, lecture notes and DVDs will reopen. And we will have our monthly meetings, banquets, contests, lectures, teach-ins plus the annual Magic Flea Market & Auction. Good fellowship is something we all miss. Until then we are proud to be presenting a series of top quality virtual lectures. A benefit of doing virtual events is that we can have talent from all over the planet and the audiences are not limited to those who can drive to Oakland. -

Banachek psychological subtleties 1 pdf Continue During my career as a semi professional magician, I came across 2 excellent magic books. The first was The Strong Magic of Darwin Ortiz and the Psychological Subtleties of #1 (PS1) is the second book. I give ps1 4 stars. PS1 is a compilation of fast, direct and short effects of chemicalism that you can use to warm the audience up to the show. If we had to make an analogy with restaurant food, PS1 tricks snacks before entrees. Tricks in PS1 are designed to be introduced as friendly tests, rather than full-fledged tricks designed to make people feel cheated. For me, not to make your audience feel cheated the principle is worth exploring. Also, since these things are meant to be presented as tests, I don't feel down or stuck anymore when I'm not forcing 4 of the hearts into the Princess card trick. PS1 is full of information and statistics that you can use to create your own little dough. When Death Comes out to Play Screams and Laughs
PLAY DEAD, CREATED BY MAGICIANS TODD ROBBINS & TELLER OPENS TONIGHT AT THE GEFFEN PLAYHOUSE LOS ANGELES (November 20, 2013) – “We’re never so alive as when we’re scared to death” posits Todd Robbins in the opening moments of Play Dead, opening tonight in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater at the Geffen Playhouse. This evening of spine chilling entertainment, a co-creation from the minds of magicians Teller, who directs and Robbins, the main performer, conjures spirits of serial killers and mediums in a show that is macabre and merry. The themes of death, darkness and deception are explored in tales that are frightening, funny, erotic and jaw-dropping. With creepy delight, Robbins uses sight, sound and touch to raise a host of real life horrors including Albert Fish, a cannibalistic serial killer and Margery the Boston Medium whose nude séances raised the dead and evolved into orgies. Robbins performs a demon extracting surgery on a trusting audience member, an on-stage murder and the tidy ingesting of a light bulb. The stories and events of this interactive production contain some disturbing images, brief moments of nudity and a great deal of fun. Audiences are surrounded by sights, sounds and touches of the returning dead. Material may be inappropriate for the faint of heart – or those under 18. Teller, the smaller, quieter half of renowned magic duo Penn & Teller, worked with Robbins to develop Play Dead which was sparked from a desire to create a séance-based play. The show is an ode to the American spook show, a mid 20th century popular entertainment involving midnight shows, magicians and manipulation of the senses all taking place in the dark.
