BOWLER HAT FLAGS INTRODUCTION Make + Do for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a set of resources designed to help you create site décor and outfits to celebrate the 2012 Games in Essex.

Designed and illustrated by Jacqueline Davies You will need: 4 metres x 2cm wide bias binding or BUNTING Cotton and felt fabric Scissors, ruler, pencil, chalk Thin card Sewing machine and pins Sequins Iron 1 2

Turn your T shirt inside out so not to show any print. Lay the T shirt flat and put it on your head. You will need a partner to do this for you! Wrap masking tape around the head 3 times above the ears. Press the tape down firmly and carefully remove the T shirt from your head. 3 4

Fold your paper along the ruled lines. Then Cut a strip of patterned paper to size - 10cm fold back and forth, making accordion folds. x 40cm. Draw parallel ruled lines on the back of your paper. 3 4

Bring your ends together to form a bangle. Gather the loop at the top to form a cone. Tape together on the plain side. TIP! ROSETTE Old road maps or musical notepaper make lovely rosettes. 5 6

Gently push down your cone so that the bottom spreads out to form the rosette. Place a dab of glue in the centre and add a small coloured contrasting circle in the centre and hold together. Repeat on the back. 7 8

Glue on your button in the centre on the front of the rosette.

TIP! Add fringe or an antique broach to your sash

Sew on your stars to sash. Slip it over your head and take a bow! 20cms

Trace onto felt fabric. Trace round onto card and cut out. Add double sided tape in the middle of the back.Add glue here and affix to a lollipop stick.

Print flag and paint. Add glue to reverse side and fold in half around a lollipop stick. Tuck behind the ribbon of your bowler hat.
