Safety Rules SAFETY RULES WARNING: RISK OF DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY Whenever you ride a Segway, you risk serious injury or death from loss of control, collisions and falls. Historically, one in every 250 customers have required first aid as a result of a fall. By applying your training you will greatly reduce this risk. PLEASE READ THESE RULES BEFORE YOU BEGIN YOUR SAFETY BRIEF If you or any member of your group does not understand English please tell your instructor so that we can make allowances for this in the safety brief. Your Forest Segway Session – What to expect: • Your hour’s session will start with a demonstration and training by an instructor followed by a period of practice riding in the training area • Once your instructor is satisfied with your group’s ability you will be taken into the forest to continue your Forest Segway experience • Once you have completed your training you will be responsible for the safe operation of your Segway and for supervising the safety and behaviour of any under 16 year olds that you have signed for IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO ACCEPT THIS LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE TRAINING AREA, AND GO APE WILL BE HAPPY TO OFFER YOU A FULL REFUND. BY FOLLOWING THESE SAFETY RULES (TOGETHER WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED WITHIN YOUR SAFETY BRIEF) YOU WILL GREATLY REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY TO YOURSELF, ANY UNDER 16s YOU HAVE SIGNED FOR AND TO ANY OTHER FOREST USERS. Safety Advice – How to ride safely: • Always look where you are going and follow the instructor’s route • Keep your distance! - From other riders, obstacles and other forest users - give yourself time to react • Always be vigilant - Concentrate on where you are going and always be prepared and able to stop in the distance that you can see to be clear. Activity Rules: • Only ride on the designated trails • If you have any difficulties blow your whistle to alert • Once on the Segway trails, any under 16s that you an instructor have signed for must remain clearly within your view • Always give right of way to other forest users • You must wear your helmet at all times and ensure that • Pay attention to and obey all signage any under 16s that you are responsible for do the same • You are not permitted to smoke whilst riding a Segway • Avoid distractions, keep both hands on the handlebar • At no time is the racing of a Segway permitted and both feet on the footplates whilst riding the Segway • Always be sure to step off the Segway backwards • Do not use a phone or camera whilst you are riding. and never leave one foot on the Segway, as this can Remember it is easy to lose control of a Segway lead to injury.
